Hints for Connections #584
Use these in order, stopping whenever you have enough to keep solving:
- Think of different ways or instruments used to accomplish or convey something.
- Look for words that can suggest insufficiency or absence when used in a phrase.
- Find four descriptors used for martini preparations.
- For the remaining words, try putting “Mr.” before each one to make a name or character-associated reference.
How to approach the tricky connections
The four groups use different kinds of links: meaning or function, phrase completion, martini terminology, and a shared prefix. If a possible group seems plausible, test whether all four words fit the same kind of relationship rather than relying on surface resemblance.
For example, BIG, LOW, MEDIUM, and SHORT might look like size or measurement terms at first. But BIG belongs with the “Mr.” references, while LOW and SHORT fit the idea of lacking something. Checking the relationship type can help separate those near-matches.
