At the chapter’s November 29, 2025 launch, Epic temporarily put it “out of commission” and sent players to the Island by Storm Surf instead. The same update introduced drivable Reboot Vans, but Epic said in its October 1, 2026 Fortnitemares update that those vans had been replaced with stationary ones.
What changed at the start of Chapter Seven?
Epic’s v39.00 update notes, published November 29, 2025, described the Battle Bus as temporarily unavailable: “While the Battle Bus is out of commission, you’ll Storm Surf your way to the Island instead!” The launch update introduced the Golden Coast map and other Chapter Seven features alongside this alternate arrival.
Epic also announced when the bus would return: “Once the Battle Bus is back in commission on December 4, Reload will come back online with the new Surf City map, Blitz Royale will light back up with the new Starfall Island, and Ranked will return.” That was a dated announcement in the launch notes, not evidence that the Battle Bus was permanently deleted.
How did the drivable Reboot Vans work?
The same v39.00 notes said, “Drivable Reboot Vans have rolled onto the Island, letting you transport your next potential reboot wherever it’s needed.” The change made reboot transport mobile rather than tying the van to a fixed location.

- GILDED TROOPER: Board the Battle Bus and drop in with Fortnite Legendary Skull Trooper (Gilded)!
- FORTNITE: 6-inch action figure is inspired by the video game Fortnite
- ARTICULATED: Feature 28 points of articulation to win any Battle Royale
- ACCESSORIES: Comes equipped with Back Bling and Harvesting Tools
- BONUS CODE: Code for virtual item included: Mecha-jolly
Epic also described a feature called Reboot Revive: a knocked player could crawl or be thrown into the back of a Reboot Van to be revived. The launch notes establish those mechanics for Chapter Seven’s launch period; they do not establish that the vans remain drivable in current Battle Royale.
Are Reboot Vans still drivable in Battle Royale?
No—not according to Epic’s October 1, 2026 Fortnitemares update. Its community update states: “Drivable Reboot Vans have been replaced with stationary Reboot Vans.” The update confirms the change from the mobile version to stationary vans, but does not give a reason for it.

That makes “Chapter 7 kills the Battle Bus” a misleading description if read as permanent: Epic announced the bus’s return for December 4, 2025. “Makes Reboot Vans drivable” describes a real Chapter Seven launch feature, but not the Battle Royale state Epic described in October 2026.

Epic’s UEFN documentation describes a configurable Drivable Reboot Van device for creator-made islands. That is a tool for island creators, not proof that Reboot Vans are currently drivable in Battle Royale. Keep the two contexts separate: live Battle Royale updates describe the mode’s current van behavior, while UEFN documentation explains what creators can configure in their own experiences.
