In Monster Hunter Wilds, Hunter Symbols I, II, and III come from High Rank Tempered hunts. The usual tier guidance is 5-star Tempered hunts for Symbol I, 6-star for Symbol II, and 7- or 8-star hunts for Symbol III. Because published guides disagree about Symbol III’s minimum tier, check the individual quest’s reward preview before setting out.

How to get Hunter Symbols

  1. Unlock High Rank Tempered hunts. Shacknews reports that Tempered monsters begin appearing after you complete Chapter 4-3, “Wyvern Sparks and Rose Thorns.” Hunter Rank and key campaign quests gate access to higher-difficulty quests; see the PlayStation endgame guide for an overview.
  2. Find a Tempered hunt at the relevant star tier. Use the map or quest board to look for the appropriate High Rank hunt. The tier mapping is a guide, not a guarantee for every quest.
  3. Check its rewards before departure. Open the quest’s Quest Info/Rewards view and confirm the exact Hunter Symbol is listed. Shacknews describes checking rewards through Alma; the displayed reward for the specific hunt is more useful than relying on a general tier rule.
  4. Complete the hunt and collect the reward. Hunter Symbols are quest-reward materials; the cited guides do not describe a special carve or capture condition for obtaining them.

Which hunt tier gives each Hunter Symbol?

Material Tempered hunt guidance What to verify
Hunter Symbol I 5-star Confirm Symbol I appears in that quest’s reward preview.
Hunter Symbol II 6-star Confirm Symbol II appears in that quest’s reward preview.
Hunter Symbol III Guides differ: Icy Veins and PC Gamer say 7-star and above; PowerPyx specifies 8-star. Shacknews describes the progression as HR7. Check the specific quest’s reward preview, particularly for Symbol III.

For Symbol III, PowerPyx names 8-star Tempered apex hunts against Rey Dau, Uth Duna, Nu Udra, Jin Dahaad, Gore Magala, and Arkveld. PC Gamer also lists several of those tougher monsters and notes that a qualifying monster in a two-monster hunt may reward Symbol III. These are examples, not a substitute for checking the reward listing on the hunt you plan to take.

How to repeat a promising hunt

If you find a field hunt that lists the symbol you need, save it as an Investigation so you can attempt it again. Icy Veins and PC Gamer describe saving a field hunt from its history; the PlayStation endgame guide says a saved Investigation can be attempted up to three times. Saving costs Guild Points, so check the current prompt and cost in your game before confirming.

There is no measured clear-time or symbols-per-minute comparison in the cited guides, so they do not establish one hunt as the fastest farm. When choosing between eligible quests, use the displayed reward, star tier, monster difficulty, Investigation availability and Guild Point cost, as well as whether the hunt advances another material goal.

What Hunter Symbols are used for

Hunter Symbols are endgame crafting materials for weapons, armor, and upgrades. Shacknews identifies them as materials for certain Rarity 8 weapons, while PC Gamer gives the Guild Ace armor set as an example that uses Hunter Symbol III. The required symbol and quantity vary by recipe; check the equipment entry at Gemma’s forge before farming.
