How to Import a Custom Skin in Minecraft Bedrock

Minecraft Bedrock custom skin imports work on Windows and mobile, but Mojang says console imports are not planned. Here’s how to import a PNG and troubleshoot common problems.

You can import a custom PNG skin in Minecraft Bedrock on Windows and mobile. Open the Dressing Room, choose a Classic Skin or custom-skin slot, select the import option, pick your PNG, then choose the matching arm model and equip it. Mojang’s current surfaced guidance says custom imports are not planned for consoles; console players can use Dressing Room and Marketplace options instead.

Which platforms support custom Bedrock skins?

Mojang’s Character Creator FAQ says custom skin importing remains possible on Windows and mobile. The same FAQ says Mojang has no plans to support custom imports on consoles. Since that is a stated policy rather than a promise about every future release, check the current in-game options if the platform changes.

Custom skins also do not sync between Bedrock devices, according to the FAQ. Import the PNG separately on each supported device where you want to use it.

Minecraft - Bedrock Edition PS4
  • Play and share with friends on console, mobile and Windows 10
  • discover community creations in the new in-game store
  • access new mini games and game modes through servers
  1. Make sure you are playing Bedrock on Windows or a mobile device. Save the skin image as a PNG somewhere the device’s file picker can reach.
  2. From Minecraft’s main screen, open Dressing Room.
  3. Go to the Classic Skin area and select a blank, owned, or custom-skin slot. Depending on the release, the import control may be called Choose New Skin or have similar wording.
  4. Choose the PNG file in the file picker. Minecraft’s skin explainer describes a skin as an unwrapped PNG texture.
  5. Select the model that matches the artwork: Classic/Wide for wider arms or Slim for slimmer arms.
  6. Confirm or equip the skin, then return to the game.

Mojang’s support pages establish the supported platforms and skin format, but do not provide one universal set of standalone-PNG menu steps for every Windows, Android, and iOS release. If your menus differ, look for the custom-skin import action within Dressing Room’s Classic Skin options.

Check the file if Minecraft rejects it

  • Confirm the actual format. Use a PNG, not a JPG renamed with a .png extension. The image should be a flat, unwrapped skin texture.
  • Check the image size. The secondary Minecraft Wiki skin guide commonly documents 64×32, 64×64, and 128×128 pixel images for Bedrock imports. This list is not stated in the official support material cited here; if Minecraft rejects a file, follow the importer’s error message.
  • Choose the right arm model. Selecting Slim for a Classic/Wide design, or vice versa, can make the arms appear differently from the artwork.
  • On Android, free up space. The Bedrock 26.30 changelog records a fix for an error shown when importing a custom skin without enough available space. If an import fails, check device storage and try again.

Import a skin pack instead of a single image

A packaged skin pack follows a different route from choosing one PNG. Microsoft’s skin-pack tutorial describes packaging the pack as an .mcpack, opening it to import it into Minecraft, then finding it through Dressing Room and Classic Skin. Follow the tutorial’s file structure and sample rather than treating a pack as an ordinary image.

  • PLAY TOGETHER — Play cross-platform with friends in Bedrock Edition on console, mobile, and PC, or join community servers in Java Edition on PC, Mac, and Linux. Online console multiplayer requires a platform-specific subscription (sold separately).

If a pack does not appear, check its contents against Microsoft Learn’s sample and review the tutorial’s note about the Only Allow Trusted Skins setting. That setting guidance is for skin packs; it is not a guaranteed fix for every single-PNG import problem.

Can you upload a custom skin on Xbox, PlayStation, or Switch?

Mojang’s surfaced FAQ says there are no plans for custom skin importing on consoles. It does not establish an official USB, LAN, Realm, or account-sync workaround, so do not rely on those methods as supported import routes.

For console options, Minecraft Help directs players to Dressing Room for skins, character-creator items, capes, and emotes, and to Marketplace > My Library for purchased or owned content. See Minecraft Marketplace help for the library guidance.

Will other players see your custom skin?

Not necessarily in every multiplayer situation. The Bedrock 26.30 changelog says players may be warned that a skin is incompatible when creating or starting a world, and may choose to proceed. That warning means you should not assume every player or platform will display every custom skin consistently.
