Choose Solgaleo to pursue Dusk Mane Necrozma, or Lunala to pursue Dawn Wings Necrozma. The Dusk Settles was ticketed Special Research for Pokémon GO Fest 2024, so this choice is relevant now only if the research is already on your account; available sources do not document a later rerun or new access. Pokémon GO’s 2024 announcement explains the fusion requirements and event guides document the two branches.
Which path gives Dusk Mane or Dawn Wings Necrozma?
The path determines which Legendary encounter and matching Fusion Energy you receive through the branch. Solgaleo pairs with Necrozma to make Dusk Mane Necrozma; Lunala pairs with Necrozma to make Dawn Wings Necrozma. The ticketed research supplied enough of the corresponding energy for one fusion.
| Choose | Branch name | Legendary encounter | Necrozma form | Fusion energy and candy | Fusion attack |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Solgaleo | Basking in the Radiance | Solgaleo | Dusk Mane Necrozma | 1,000 Solar Fusion Energy, 30 Necrozma Candy, and 30 Cosmog Candy | Sunsteel Strike |
| Lunala | Hidden in the Umbra | Lunala | Dawn Wings Necrozma | 1,000 Lunar Fusion Energy, 30 Necrozma Candy, and 30 Cosmog Candy | Moongeist Beam |
The fusion costs are the same apart from the type of Fusion Energy. Pokémon GO’s announcement lists Sunsteel Strike and Moongeist Beam at 135 power in Trainer Battles and 230 power in Gyms and raids; those figures do not, by themselves, show that one fusion is better overall. See Pokémon GO’s fusion announcement.
What else changes between the branches?
The routes have different intermediate encounters and tasks, not just different final Legendaries. The historical task guides list Espeon on the Solgaleo route and Umbreon on the Lunala route. Pokémon GO Hub reports that the research offers only one of the two Legendary encounters. These branch-specific rewards may matter if you collect particular Pokémon, but they do not establish one path as objectively better. Pokémon GO Hub’s event guide and Leek Duck’s event guide give the task details.

Can you get both Solgaleo and Lunala from this research?
The available guides describe The Dusk Settles as a one-of-two branch: the research gives one Legendary encounter, not both. Choosing a path is not documented as reversible, and separating a fused Necrozma does not grant the other branch’s encounter or rewards.
Pokémon GO says that a fused Necrozma remains fused until its Trainer separates it, and that separation costs no Fusion Energy or Pokémon Candy. That makes the fusion reversible, but it does not make the research choice reversible. Pokémon GO’s fusion announcement

Does the Special Background affect the choice?
GO Fest 2024 ticket holders received a Solgaleo or Lunala with a Special Background through the ticketed research. The associated background variant could appear when a backgrounded Necrozma was fused with it. If that collection detail matters to you, it is another reason to choose the Legendary you want to pair with Necrozma. Pokémon GO’s announcement

This was Special Research for Pokémon GO Fest 2024 and required an active event ticket for access. Pokémon GO Hub says it could be picked up during the Global event and that research already acquired had no expiration. As of October 8, 2026, the available sources do not document a rerun or a way for new players to obtain it, so treat the choice as applicable to accounts that already received the research.
