Until Dawn 2 is officially coming to PS5 in 2027. The new epilogues added to Until Dawn’s 2024 remake helped spark sequel speculation, but PlayStation now describes the announced game as a standalone story with a new cast and setting. It has confirmed Dr. Hill’s return, but has not said whether Sam or Josh will appear.
What the new ending added to Until Dawn Remastered
In an October 3, 2024 report, GameSpot described two new post-credit scenes in the remake. One offers Josh a possible fate in which he survives his encounter with the creature, badly injured, and hears Dr. Hill’s voice. In the other, Sam wakes years later from a dream with a bleeding wound and hears someone call her name. GameSpot’s report treats these as epilogue developments, not confirmation of a sequel or a particular continuation for either character.

At the time, Sony had not announced another game. That changed on June 2, 2026, when PlayStation officially announced Until Dawn 2.
What PlayStation has confirmed about Until Dawn 2
PlayStation announced Until Dawn 2 for PS5 with a 2027 release window. It describes the game as a standalone experience with a new cast and world. The premise follows a crew of ghost hunters who travel to an abandoned tropical island to film a funded episode, only to encounter real supernatural horrors. Choices shape who survives, and relationships affect the story’s branches. The announcement does not give a more precise launch date or name platforms beyond PS5.

Dr. Hill will return, played by Peter Stormare. Creative director Stu Tilley of Firesprite Games says, “Your decisions still shape the story: who falls victim, and who survives Until Dawn…” PlayStation identifies Firesprite as the studio leading the sequel and says it is the team’s first release since Horizon: Call of the Mountain. Is Until Dawn 2 a direct continuation of Sam and Josh’s stories?
That has not been confirmed. PlayStation’s description of a standalone game with a new cast and setting points to a fresh story, while confirming Dr. Hill as a returning character. It does not say Sam or Josh will appear, nor does it explain whether the new epilogues connect to the sequel’s plot. So the scenes can be read as openings for future possibilities, but they are not proof that either character’s story continues in Until Dawn 2.

PlayStation’s August 14, 2024 remake announcement says the rebuilt game uses Unreal Engine 5, adds a third-person camera alongside fixed and over-the-shoulder views, revises the prologue, and introduces Hunger totems. Those changes expanded selected parts of the experience while aiming to preserve the original narrative.

The two scenes leave unsettling questions around Sam and Josh, and the return of Dr. Hill in the announced sequel gives one of their details new relevance. But the evidence separates into two things: GameSpot reported what the remake’s epilogues show, while PlayStation’s official announcement establishes the sequel’s release window, premise, and returning character. Neither source confirms that the sequel follows those epilogues or brings Sam or Josh back.
