In Pokémon Legends: Z-A, a Pokémon’s nature affects which stats are favored and which are reduced. You can adjust those nature-based stat effects with Mints, according to game guides. The practical choice is a trade-off: match the raised stat to the Pokémon’s role and moves, and decide whether the reduced stat matters.
What a nature does
A nature is a stat-affecting trait. Most natures favor one stat while reducing another; four are neutral and have no net increase or decrease from nature, according to the nature guide from RotomLabs. This nature effect is distinct from ordinary growth: The Pokémon Company says Pokémon gain stats as they level up through experience in its leveling and adventure guidance.
The complete nature pairings below are documented by RotomLabs. For example, Adamant raises Attack and lowers Special Attack; Jolly raises Speed and lowers Special Attack; Timid raises Speed and lowers Attack. Neutral natures have no net nature-based stat change.
| Stat increased | Attack reduced | Defense reduced | Sp. Atk reduced | Sp. Def reduced | Speed reduced |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Attack | Hardy (neutral) | Lonely | Adamant | Naughty | Brave |
| Defense | Bold | Docile (neutral) | Impish | Lax | Relaxed |
| Sp. Atk | Modest | Mild | Bashful (neutral) | Rash | Quiet |
| Sp. Def | Calm | Gentle | Careful | Quirky (neutral) | Sassy |
| Speed | Timid | Hasty | Jolly | Naive | Serious (neutral) |
How to choose a nature
Start with the Pokémon’s intended role and the stats its planned moves use. Physical moves use Attack; special moves use Special Attack. Then compare the stat each nature raises with the one it lowers.

- For a physical attacker, an Attack-raising nature such as Adamant is one option if the Special Attack reduction is an acceptable trade-off.
- For a Pokémon relying on Speed and physical moves, compare a Speed-raising choice such as Jolly, which reduces Special Attack.
- For a Pokémon whose role depends on a stat that a nature would lower, consider another pairing or a neutral nature.
These are decision examples, not universal rankings. The right pairing depends on the individual Pokémon, its moves and its role; there is no single best nature for every team member.
How Mints change nature effects
Game guides describe Mints as items that change which stats a Pokémon’s nature-based effects increase and reduce. They do not change the Pokémon’s nature label. A Serious Mint is described as removing nature-caused stat changes by Game8’s Serious Mint guide.

RotomLabs lists five broad Mint categories, representative Mint or herb stalls around Lumiose City, and a price of ₽20,000 per Mint. Game8 also lists the Serious Mint at ₽20,000. Those prices and shop locations come from guides, not an official nature reference, and may depend on the game version; check the current in-game shop before planning a purchase.
Why nature is only one battle consideration
The Pokémon Company describes Pokémon Legends: Z-A battles as real-time: Trainers and Pokémon move during combat, and players command Pokémon to use moves. Its official gameplay page highlights timing, move reach, area of effect and the time a move takes to execute as battle considerations. Those factors matter alongside stat preparation, but the available official guidance does not provide a formula for ranking nature choices against them.
