If The Crew Motorfest looks choppy on a base PS5, switch from Quality to Performance Mode first: Ubisoft lists the modes at 30 FPS and 60 FPS respectively. If the problem is rubber-banding or disconnects, focus on the game’s online connection instead; if it freezes, will not load, or crashes, use PlayStation’s general game troubleshooting steps. These checks target different symptoms and are not guaranteed fixes.
First, identify what “lag” looks like
Before changing settings, note what happens and when. A low or uneven frame rate, a brief freeze, online rubber-banding, a disconnect, and a failure to load are different problems. Also check whether the issue happens in other games and whether it occurs in solo/free-drive play or mainly online. That distinction helps avoid treating a local rendering problem as a network fault.
- Choppy motion or low-looking FPS: start with the graphics mode and game/system updates.
- Rubber-banding, connection errors, or disconnects: check Ubisoft or PlayStation service status and your connection.
- Freezes, crashes, or trouble starting: try the console’s general game troubleshooting steps.
10 checks for The Crew Motorfest lagging on PS5
1. Try Performance Mode on a base PS5
For smoother motion, open the game’s display or graphics options and choose Performance Mode. Ubisoft’s 7 November 2024 announcement lists base PS5 Quality Mode at 2160p and 30 FPS, while Performance Mode averages 1425p during missions, upscaled, at 60 FPS. These are Ubisoft-announced specifications, not independent test results; the lower resolution is the trade-off for the higher frame-rate target. Menu labels can change with updates.
Do not apply the PS5 Pro figures to a base PS5. Ubisoft separately announced a PS5 Pro mode targeting a 4K-like PSSR-assisted experience at 60 FPS, with an average 1696p during missions before upscaling. Ubisoft’s PS5 Pro announcement describes both console cases.

2. Check for a Motorfest update
Install any available game update, then see whether the same symptom still occurs. A patch may fix a particular defect, but the available Season 5 patch notes list historical, specific fixes and do not establish that a universal lag problem has been fixed.
3. Close and restart the game
Exit Motorfest fully and launch it again. If the symptom persists, restart the PS5 from the console’s power menu. PlayStation includes restarting the console in its general game-start troubleshooting flow; it is a simple check, not a guaranteed remedy for frame-rate judder.

A PS4 or PS5 console with a wired connection via a LAN cable is recommended. Version 4.0 of the Remote Play App on iOS and iPadOS or version 4.1 on macOS is required for games to be playable with the controller over Bluetooth.
4. Check PS5 system software
In the PS5 settings, check for a system software update and install one if offered. PlayStation recommends using the latest system software in its game troubleshooting guidance. Recheck the problem after the update completes.
5. For online symptoms, check service status
If the issue is a disconnect, rubber-banding, or trouble connecting to online services, check whether PlayStation Network or Ubisoft services are experiencing an outage before changing console settings. Then use the PS5’s connection test. These checks help distinguish an online-service or network problem from local rendering slowdown.

6. Test a wired connection if you play over Wi-Fi
For connection errors, PlayStation recommends trying a wired connection when possible. Connect the PS5 to your router with Ethernet and test the same online activity again. If a cable is not practical, try playing nearer the router. This is a network check, not a fix established for local FPS drops or short freezes.
7. Use Safe Mode options only when broader trouble persists
If Motorfest’s loading or start problems continue, or the PS5 is also behaving unusually elsewhere, PlayStation’s general support includes Safe Mode options for clearing the system software cache and rebuilding the database. Follow PlayStation’s Safe Mode instructions and read each option before selecting it. These are general console troubleshooting tools, not Motorfest-specific stutter fixes.

8. Reinstall Motorfest only for persistent install or start problems
If the game still fails to start or load after simpler checks, delete it and download it again using the PS5 library or PlayStation Store. PlayStation includes delete-and-redownload in its game-start troubleshooting flow. Reinstalling is not a documented fix for ordinary in-game stutter, so reserve it for persistent install or start trouble.
9. Compare where and when the symptom happens
Try to reproduce the issue in the same activity and note whether it appears in solo play, online play, or both. If only online sessions are affected, keep investigating the connection or service path. If the frame pacing looks uneven in both solo and online play, the Performance Mode and software checks are more relevant than buying network hardware.

10. Report a repeatable issue to Ubisoft
If the problem remains reproducible, submit a report through Ubisoft’s Motorfest support page. Include the PS5 model, game version, what you were doing, the exact steps that reproduce the issue, what you expected to happen, any workaround you tried, and a screenshot or video if possible. Ubisoft’s bug-report guidance specifically requests the steps taken to reach the bug, expected behavior, reproduction steps, available workarounds, and images or video.

Use PlayStation support for system-level symptoms such as repeated game-start failures or problems affecting multiple games. Contact Ubisoft when a Motorfest-specific issue remains reproducible after the relevant checks, especially if you can provide clear steps and a clip. Ubisoft’s technical troubleshooting article is labeled for PC, so its PC benchmark-tool advice should not be treated as a PS5 fix.
