If you want the road trip itself to shape the game, start with Road 96 for branching encounters, Keep Driving for trip management, Pacific Drive for survival behind the wheel, or The Long Drive for open-ended desert exploration. These four are the road-trip games supported by the available official listings; they cover distinct experiences, but they do not make a verified nine-game list.

Choose by the kind of road trip you want
For a story-led trip: Road 96
Road 96 sends you toward the border of Petria, a fictional nation, through a procedurally generated journey. Its choices influence the adventure and the people you meet, making it the clearest fit here if you want characters and branching encounters more than a detailed driving simulation. Nintendo likewise describes its Switch edition as a road-trip adventure with varied routes and stories. The listed Switch edition is digital.
The original PC release was August 16, 2021, according to the Steam listing. For a journey where each stop can bring a different encounter, this is the one to start with.
For trip management: Keep Driving
Keep Driving treats a cross-country road trip as a management RPG. You plan routes, pick up hitchhikers, take odd jobs, and repair or customize your car; road challenges are resolved using skills and items rather than continuous driving. It suits players who enjoy weighing resources and decisions along the way.

The Steam listing says it has multiple endings, each taking about one to four hours. It gives a release date of February 6, 2025. See the Steam listing for the game details.
For survival behind the wheel: Pacific Drive
In Pacific Drive, driving is central to staying alive in the Olympic Exclusion Zone. PlayStation describes it as a run-based, first-person driving-survival game: you launch trips from an upgradeable garage, and runs are repeatable and randomized. Your car is more than transport; it is your lifeline. Choose this over a conventional road-story game if you want the vehicle and survival systems to define each outing.

For unstructured desert exploration: The Long Drive
The Long Drive emphasizes freedom, driving, exploration, and immersion on a road trip through an almost infinite procedurally generated desert. It is the loosest option in this group: the appeal is the open-ended drive, not a verified character-led branching story or a structured management campaign.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which one should you pick?
- Choose Road 96 if you want people, story, and choices to make the journey feel different.
- Choose Keep Driving if planning, car upkeep, and resource decisions are the fun part.
- Choose Pacific Drive if you want driving and survival pressure to work together.
- Choose The Long Drive if you want to roam through a generated landscape with fewer constraints.
The four games do not all simulate driving in the same way. Pacific Drive and The Long Drive put driving at the center; Road 96 is a broader narrative adventure, while Keep Driving abstracts road challenges into management and turn-based encounters. That difference is more useful when choosing than treating every game with a car or a journey as the same kind of road trip.
