Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsTo connect the 8BitDo Ultimate 2.4G Wireless Controller to a docked Nintendo Switch, enable System Settings > Controllers and Sensors > Pro Controller Wired Communication, plug the controller’s 2.4G receiver into a USB port on the dock, and turn on the controller. If it is set to D/X mode, hold Minus + LB for five seconds to switch to Switch mode; a brief vibration confirms the change.
Connect it to a docked Nintendo Switch
- Enable wired communication: On the Switch, open System Settings > Controllers and Sensors and turn on Pro Controller Wired Communication.
- Attach the receiver: Plug the Ultimate 2.4G’s included 2.4G receiver into a USB port on the Switch dock.
- Set the controller mode: The manual says to set the controller’s mode switch to 2.4G. If the controller is currently in D/X mode or the Switch does not recognize it, turn it on and hold Minus + LB for five seconds to enter Switch mode. 8BitDo says a short vibration indicates the change.
- Turn it on: Press the controller’s Home button, then wait for the Switch to recognize it.
These steps are for the 8BitDo Ultimate 2.4G Wireless Controller, not the Ultimate Bluetooth Controller or Ultimate 2 Wireless; those are different models with different connection instructions. See 8BitDo’s Ultimate 2.4G Switch manual and Ultimate 2.4G FAQ.
Connect it to a Switch Lite
8BitDo says a Switch Lite requires an OTG cable to attach the receiver. Its instructions do not identify a specific cable or adapter model, so check that the accessory supports the connection you need before buying it. Once the receiver is attached, follow the same settings and controller-mode steps above.
Compatibility and feature limits
8BitDo’s manual lists Nintendo Switch system version 3.0.0 or above for the described 2.4G connection. That is the manufacturer’s stated requirement; the cited setup instructions do not establish compatibility with every later console update.

In Switch use, 8BitDo lists NFC/amiibo, motion control, IR, HD rumble, and console wake as unsupported. The manual also lists notification LED as unsupported. Do not expect those features to work through this controller.
8BitDo says its Ultimate Software for PC supports the controller, but Switch mode is not available in the software; its mobile app does not support this controller. The setup instructions do not state that a firmware update is required before connecting.

- If the controller is set to D/X, use the Minus + LB five-second Switch mode procedure and look for the confirming vibration.
- For Switch Lite, make sure the receiver is attached through an OTG cable.
8BitDo’s support and firmware listing includes Ultimate 2.4G firmware, but the cited setup materials do not establish that updating firmware resolves recognition problems or changes compatibility with newer Switch system versions.
