For the easiest official visual upgrade, open Settings → Video settings → Graphics Mode in Minecraft for Windows and select Vibrant Visuals. If by “shaders” you mean hardware ray tracing, you’ll also need a compatible DirectX ray-tracing GPU and a world or pack that supports it. Third-party shader loaders are another option, but they are unofficial and may stop working after game updates.
What “shaders” means in Bedrock
On Bedrock PC, “shaders” can refer to different graphics features that are not interchangeable:
- Vibrant Visuals: Minecraft’s built-in graphics mode for directional lighting, volumetric fog, and atmospheric effects.
- Ray tracing: Hardware-accelerated lighting available on supported Windows PCs and compatible content.
- Resource packs: Packs can provide material data for a graphics pipeline, but a pack’s compatibility depends on its format, Minecraft version, and the graphics mode.
- Community shader loaders: Unofficial tools that attempt to load shader packs, sometimes by changing game files.
The official routes to try first are Vibrant Visuals and, if your PC and content support it, ray tracing. A pack labelled “shader” is not guaranteed to work with every mode or Bedrock release. Minecraft’s Vibrant Visuals announcement describes the newer rendering capabilities and their pack requirements.
Turn on Vibrant Visuals
- Launch Minecraft and open Settings.
- Select Video settings.
- Open Graphics Mode.
- Select Vibrant Visuals.
Microsoft describes Vibrant Visuals as a graphics feature that runs locally and does not change gameplay. Resource packs designed for its PBR pipeline need the pbr capability in their manifest. Packs built for RTX using the raytracing capability may also work with the newer pipeline, but Microsoft cautions that the newer capabilities are not backwards-compatible with the RTX pipeline. Check the pack’s stated Bedrock version and graphics requirements rather than assuming it will work because it is called a shader pack. Use ray tracing on a compatible PC
Ray tracing is a separate option from simply enabling a graphics mode: Minecraft describes Windows ray tracing as a Render Dragon feature that uses global illumination and per-pixel lighting on supported DirectX hardware. It remains available alongside Vibrant Visuals, but it only works in supported content, not automatically in every world. Minecraft’s overview of Render Dragon and ray tracing explains the feature.
Check the listed requirements
Microsoft Learn’s ray-tracing guide lists Windows 64-bit, a PC, a DirectX hardware ray-tracing-capable GPU (examples include NVIDIA GeForce RTX 20 Series or higher and AMD Radeon RX 6000 Series or higher), an Intel Core i5 or equivalent, at least 8 GB of RAM, and Minecraft version 1.16.200 or higher. These are the requirements stated in that guide; check the current Minecraft support information before relying on them, since game requirements can change. Find a world or pack that supports it
Ray tracing depends on compatible content. Microsoft says eligible Windows players can try free Marketplace worlds featuring PBR and ray tracing; supported Marketplace content is marked with a blue icon. Activate a resource pack in a world
Activating a pack makes it available to a world; it does not guarantee that the pack provides shader effects or supports your graphics mode. Minecraft Help documents these routes for resource packs and add-ons. Minecraft Help: How to Install Minecraft Add-Ons.

For a new world
- Choose Play → Create New World.
- Open the world creation or content screen, then select Resource packs.
- Under Available, activate the pack you want.
- Create the world.
For an existing world
- Choose Play and select the pencil/edit icon beside the world.
- Open Resource packs.
- Under Available, activate the pack.
- Return to the world list and play the world.
Minecraft Help also documents pack activation through Realm settings and the selected world slot. For any world, confirm the pack’s Bedrock version, graphics-pipeline support, and hardware requirements before troubleshooting the graphics mode.

Some community guides describe using BetterRenderDragon on Windows to load shader packs. One documented workflow extracts the tool, imports a compatible pack, starts Minecraft with the supplied LaunchMinecraft.bat, enables MaterialBinLoader in the tool, activates the pack under Global Resource Packs, and restarts the game. The same guide describes a manual method that replaces material.bin files through Bedrock Launcher.

This is not an official Mojang or Microsoft support workflow, and the guide does not establish compatibility with every current release. It advises backing up the com.mojang folder and vanilla materials before manual changes. Check the tool and pack’s current compatibility information before using them, and make a backup of your worlds and game data first. Do not treat file replacement as required or risk-free. The BetterRenderDragon guide states that its site is not affiliated with Mojang Studios.

Start with Vibrant Visuals. Use ray tracing only if your PC and chosen world or pack support it; consider a community loader only if you are comfortable with unofficial tools and backups.
