Was ist Borderlands 4?
Borderlands 4 ist ein Loot-Shooter von Gearbox und 2K, der am 12. September 2025 für PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S und PC über Steam und den Epic Games Store erschienen ist. Die Handlung führt auf den neuen Planeten Kairos, der unter der Herrschaft des Timekeeper steht. Vier neue Vault Hunter stellen sich seinem Regime. Was ist neu an Spielgefühl und Aufbau?
Mehr Bewegung im Kampf
Zu den Neuerungen gehören zusätzliche Fortbewegungsmöglichkeiten. Der Guardian hebt Greifhaken, Hover-Bike sowie Sprung- und Gleitbewegungen hervor. In seiner Rezension bewertet er die Bewegung als spürbare Verbesserung: Sie ergänzt die Schusswechsel, ohne den Loot- und Kampfkreislauf zu verdrängen. Steve Boxers Test für den Guardian beschreibt das Spiel zugleich als vertraut und vorhersehbar, aber ausgearbeitet und unterhaltsam.

Eine offenere Welt, eine andere Taktung
Kairos bietet mehr Raum für Erkundung und weniger ein streng lineares Aneinanderreihen von Missionen. TechRadar lobt die offene Welt und den Loot-Loop, weist aber darauf hin, dass die offenere Struktur eigene Performance-Haker mit sich bringen kann. Der PC-Test von TechRadar sieht außerdem eine zurückgenommene Meme-Komik als Teil der Rückbesinnung auf die spielerischen Stärken der Reihe. Die größere Freiheit ist also ein Plus für Erkundung, aber kein Ersatz für die vertraute Missions-, Kampf- und Beute-Schleife.
Wie fällt das Testbild aus?
Die drei Rezensionen zeichnen ein überwiegend positives, aber nicht vorbehaltloses Bild. Der Guardian lobt Kairos, die vier Figuren, die Schusswechsel und die Bewegung. TechRadar hebt den Kern-Loop und die offene Welt hervor, hält die PC-Performance jedoch für ein ernstes Gegenargument zu einer uneingeschränkten Empfehlung. PC Gamer vergab 82 Punkte und fand die Kernschleife fesselnd, kritisierte aber die Benutzeroberfläche und ruckelige Performance.

PC Gamers Rezension beruhte auf einem PC mit NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060, AMD Ryzen 7 5800 und 16 GB RAM. Der Rezensent Harvey Randall berichtete von 47 Stunden Spielzeit während des Tests; das ist seine persönliche Testdauer und keine allgemeine Angabe zur Kampagnenlänge. Die dort beschriebenen Ruckler sind kein Beleg dafür, dass Borderlands 4 auf jeder PC-Konfiguration oder auf Konsolen gleich läuft.
Was die späteren Updates belegen
Die offiziellen Versionshinweise zu Version 1.6 vom 30. April 2026 nennen umfangreiche Verbesserungen und erklären, dass das Team weitere Stabilitäts- und Performanceverbesserungen untersucht. Das zeigt, dass nach dem Start weiter an technischen Problemen gearbeitet wurde; es belegt weder eine bestimmte Bildrate noch, dass Performanceprobleme auf allen Geräten behoben sind. Die Versionshinweise zu Version 1.6 liefern keine pauschale Leistungsgarantie für jede Plattform.

Wie funktionieren Koop und Crossplay?
Laut der Launch-Mitteilung können bis zu vier Personen gemeinsam spielen. Crossplay setzt einen SHiFT-Account voraus. Für Online-Spiel auf Konsolen ist außerdem das jeweilige kostenpflichtige Online-Abo der Plattform erforderlich. Wer mit einer festen Gruppe starten will, sollte daher vorab klären, ob alle Mitspielenden Zugang zum passenden Konto und Konsolen-Abo haben.
Welche Edition lohnt sich?
Die offiziellen Angaben nennen Standard-, Deluxe- und Super-Deluxe-Edition. Die Standard Edition enthält das Grundspiel. Die Deluxe Edition ergänzt das Bounty Pack Bundle mit vier DLC-Paketen sowie zusätzlichen Karten, Ausrüstung und kosmetischen Inhalten. Super Deluxe enthält darüber hinaus den Vault Hunter Pack mit zwei Story-Paketen und zwei neuen Vault Huntern sowie kosmetische Extras. Prüft die aktuellen Store-Einträge, um zu sehen, welche Inhalte bereits verfügbar sind und was der jeweilige Kauf heute umfasst.

Die US-Launchpreise aus der Mitteilung von Take-Two und 2K vom 12. September 2025 lagen bei 69,99 US-Dollar für Standard, 99,99 US-Dollar für Deluxe und 129,99 US-Dollar für Super Deluxe. Das sind historische US-Preise, keine aktuellen Preise und keine Preisangabe für Deutschland.
Die offizielle FAQ zu Editionen und Plattformen, aktualisiert am 30. Juni 2026, bestätigt, dass die Standard Edition auf Konsolen physisch oder digital angeboten wird. Deluxe und Super Deluxe sind laut FAQ digital erhältlich. Für Käufer einer physischen PS5-Version ist damit die Standard Edition die bestätigte Wahl; aktuelle Händlerpreise und Lagerbestände sind davon unabhängig.

Gibt es Borderlands 4 für Nintendo Switch 2?
Die aktuelle offizielle Produktseite führt PS5, Xbox Series X|S und PC auf, nicht Nintendo Switch 2. Zwar hatte Take-Two die Switch-2-Version früher für den 3. Oktober 2025 angekündigt, doch die Support-FAQ vom 30. Juni 2026 listet weiterhin PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam und Epic und kündigt weitere Informationen zur Switch 2 an. Auf Grundlage dieser offiziellen Angaben lässt sich die Switch-2-Version nicht als erhältlich bestätigen. Ein älterer Termin allein belegt keine aktuelle Verfügbarkeit.
Für wen lohnt sich Borderlands 4?
- Für Serienfans: Der Loot- und Kampf-Loop bleibt im Mittelpunkt, während neue Bewegungsmöglichkeiten die Kämpfe ergänzen.
- Für Erkundungsfreudige: Kairos bietet eine offenere Welt und mehr Raum, zwischen Missionen eigene Wege zu wählen.
- Für Koop-Gruppen: Bis zu vier Personen können spielen; SHiFT-Konto und gegebenenfalls Konsolen-Online-Abo gehören zur Planung dazu.
- Für PC-Spieler: Die Tests aus 2025 berichten von Performanceproblemen und Rucklern. Da diese Einschätzungen auf konkreten PC-Testsystemen beruhen und Updates folgten, sollten sie nicht als Messwert für die eigene Hardware oder den aktuellen Patchstand gelesen werden.
Wer eine radikale Neuerfindung der Reihe erwartet, findet sie hier nicht: Der Reiz liegt vielmehr darin, den vertrauten Shooter-Kern mit mehr Bewegungsfreiheit und einer offeneren Welt weiterzuführen. Ob das genügt, hängt vor allem davon ab, wie gern man den Loot-Loop spielt und welche Bedeutung die genannten PC-Einschränkungen für die eigene Plattform haben.
