Duskmourn: House of Horror is a Magic: The Gathering set built around a plane-spanning, ever-shifting house and horror influences drawn from the 1980s through the present. Its signature Room cards are enchantments with two doors: cast one side first, then pay to unlock the other side’s abilities later.
What is Duskmourn based on?
Wizards of the Coast describes Duskmourn as inspired by horror media from the ’80s through the modern day—not as an adaptation of one decade, film, or franchise. The story takes place in a contemporary horror setting where the House covers an entire plane, its rooms shift, and its inhabitants face the horrors inside. Wizards introduced an ensemble including Niko Aris, Tyvar Kell, Zimone Wola, Kaito Shizuki, and the Wanderer in its June 28, 2024 announcement.
The set’s presentation includes full-art manor lands and treatments such as double-exposure, paranormal-frame, mirror-monster, and Japan Showcase cards. These styles reinforce its horror aesthetic, while Room cards provide the defining gameplay hook.
How do Room cards work in Magic?
A Room is an enchantment with two halves called doors. You cast the card by choosing one door and paying that side’s cost; that door is unlocked on the battlefield, where its abilities are available. The other door can be unlocked later by paying its cost, adding access to that side’s abilities. An ability that triggers “when you unlock this door” triggers whether the door is unlocked as the Room enters or later.

Wizards’ September 13, 2024 release notes explain the key distinction: a Room is a permanent card, not a split instant or sorcery. It stays on the battlefield as an enchantment after you cast its first door.
What are the doors on a Room card?
The doors are the card’s two separately usable halves. Each has its own cost and abilities. The first door you cast determines which half is unlocked initially; the second remains locked until you pay its cost. This staged design lets you use one side without paying for both at once, then unlock the rest if the game state and your available mana make it worthwhile.

When did Duskmourn release?
The tabletop set released on September 27, 2024. Wizards announced September 24, 2024 as the MTG Arena release date. Both dates are historical, not upcoming launch dates; the official card gallery remains a reference for the set’s cards.
What Duskmourn products were offered?
