Nintendo Switch 2’s announced games include first-party exclusives, third-party releases, and enhanced Switch 2 Editions of games originally released for Nintendo Switch. Those categories are not interchangeable. This guide separates the titles identified in Nintendo’s dated first-party materials from Switch 2 Edition listings, and explains where a complete, current release list cannot be established from those sources.
What counts as a Nintendo Switch 2 game?
A Switch 2 game may be a new title made for the system, a third-party release, or a Switch 2 Edition of an existing Nintendo Switch game. Nintendo describes a Switch 2 Edition as a bundle of the original Switch game and an upgrade pack. If you already own the original game, Nintendo says you can purchase the upgrade pack instead; check the individual title’s listing for its conditions.

Later first-party announcements in Nintendo’s May 2026 lineup
Nintendo’s May 2026 investor-relations lineup covered first-party Switch 2 titles already announced for May 2026 and beyond. It gave dates for these two games:
Rank #2
- Blast off on a high-octane adventure to save a star system from invasion
- Tear through space, soar across planets, and shoot loads of foes out of the sky at every step of the way
- A cinematic take on the Star Fox 64 story, featuring fully voiced dialogue, an epic orchestral soundtrack, and a complete visual overhaul for the Nintendo Switch 2 system
- Enter first-person mode to experience the action from inside the cockpit, and even use mouse controls to fly
- Invite a second player* to join you as a gunner using Nintendo Switch 2 mouse controls
| Title | Date in Nintendo’s May 2026 lineup | How to read the date |
|---|---|---|
| Yoshi and the Mysterious Book | May 21, 2026 | Planned release date as stated in the May 2026 lineup; that dated presentation alone does not confirm later changes or current availability. |
| Star Fox | June 25, 2026 | Planned release date as stated in the May 2026 lineup; that dated presentation alone does not confirm later changes or current availability. |
Because these dates have passed, verify the current regional release status with Nintendo or the game’s publisher before treating either as upcoming or available.
Switch 2 Editions are enhanced editions, not automatically new games
Nintendo UK’s catalogue lists the following Switch 2 Editions. These are edition listings for games first released on the original Switch, so they should not be counted as wholly new Switch 2 games or as Switch 2 exclusives.

Nintendo’s official catalogue is useful for Nintendo-published product pages and edition details, but it is not presented as a complete worldwide index of third-party announcements. Nintendo Life’s confirmed-games catalogue, dated April 29, 2026, is a broader secondary discovery index and says release dates can change. Its separate exclusives index also includes mixed release timing and publisher information.

- Shape the world and build a cozy new life with Pokémon as a Ditto transformed to look like a human.
- Use other Pokémon’s moves, like Bulbasaur’s Leafage, to revitalize and navigate the world around you.
- Meet and befriend more Pokémon as you help nature flourish.
- Gather materials to create items and furniture, till the fields to grow delicious crops, build homes for the Pokémon you meet, and more—there’s so much to do!
- Experience a world with varied weather, real-time days and nights, and other surprises.
Neither an undated or year-only window nor a tentative date should be treated as a firm launch date. In particular, a listing dated October 8, 2026—the research cut-off date—may already be available in some regions or may use a different local date. Confirm important dates and exclusivity claims with Nintendo or the game’s publisher.
How to check a title before buying
- Identify the category. Is it a new Switch 2 game, a Switch 2 Edition, or an original Switch game that may be compatible?
- Check release status and region. Distinguish an available release from a dated future release, a broad window, or an undated announcement.
- Check the edition and upgrade path. If you own the original Switch game, confirm whether Nintendo offers an upgrade pack for that specific title and what it includes.
- Confirm format and compatibility. Do not assume a physical edition exists or that every original Switch game works fully on Switch 2; check the regional product listing.
Is there a definitive total of Switch 2 games?
No authoritative, date-stamped total for all globally announced Switch 2 games is established by the sources cited here. Lists differ in what they count, and release plans change. A total is meaningful only when its publisher, cut-off date, and inclusion rules are clear—for example, whether it counts Switch 2 Editions, compatible Switch games, or only newly announced Switch 2 titles.
