Polymega is worth a look if you want one modern setup for playing original discs and, with extra hardware, cartridges from several retro systems. The trade-off is that cartridge play requires a matching Element Module, and Polymega’s two options work differently: the PM01 is a standalone TV console, while Remix depends on a compatible Windows 11 PC. Exact game compatibility, current stock, and pricing should be checked before you buy.
What is Polymega?
Polymega is a modular retro gaming platform from Playmaji. Its built-in optical drive supports original game discs on both the PM01 Base Unit and Polymega Remix. Cartridge play requires the matching Element Module; a disc-capable system alone does not read cartridges.
The PM01 is the standalone console that connects to a TV. Remix is not standalone: it connects to a compatible Windows 11 PC and runs through the free Polymega App. The official compatibility matrix is the best place to check which system formats are listed for each option.

These are platform-format listings, not a guarantee that every title will work. Compatibility can vary by game, region, and revision. Polymega’s FAQ says the company does not provide a complete public game-by-game compatibility list, so check its live matrix and FAQ for the particular system and region you own.
Do you need a module to play cartridges?
Yes. To play a cartridge, you need the Element Module that matches its system; the module provides the cartridge connection for that family. For example, an SNES cartridge calls for EM02, while a Genesis/Mega Drive cartridge calls for EM03. Confirm regional variants and the exact system entry in the compatibility matrix before choosing a module.

Polymega’s official shop showed EM01 through EM05 at $99 each and EM06 at $120 when accessed on October 8, 2026. Some listings showed “Pre-Order.” These are a dated snapshot, not guaranteed current prices or availability; Polymega said prices were changing effective October 5, 2026. Check the live shop before budgeting.
PM01 or Remix: which should you choose?

Choose PM01 if you want a dedicated living-room console rather than a PC accessory. Choose Remix if using a compatible Windows computer suits your setup and you do not need a standalone console. The two products are not interchangeable in setup: the FAQ explicitly says Remix requires a compatible Windows device running the App.

The PM01 listing includes the console, wireless controller, power supply, HD video cable, dust cover, quick-start guide, and a one-year limited warranty. On October 8, 2026, the official page showed the unit sold out and said a new version was coming; it did not establish when that version will ship or its final specifications. Check the PM01 listing for current status.
What does Remix require, and what are its current limits?
Polymega App version 0.7.25.19, with release notes dated September 4, 2026, lists Windows 11, a 3GHz Intel-based CPU, and at least 8GB of RAM. Polymega cautions against light-duty Windows tablets. These requirements apply to the App/Remix setup, not to the standalone PM01. Check the App page for the version and requirements available when you buy.

The same release notes describe the following App-specific status and limitations:
- N64 gameplay is functional in that release; Hardware Pak accessories were planned for a future release.
- The GC01 light gun is listed as functional for NES, SNES, PS1, and Saturn; Mega Drive/Genesis CD support was planned for a future update.
- Internet access was required at the time of the notes.
- Atari Jaguar emulation was not yet supported, and game patching was unavailable in the App.
- Multi-disc games had to be installed before changing discs.
- Removing a game, controller, and module at the same time could cause a lockup.
These notes describe App version 0.7.25.19, not every Polymega product or a guarantee about later versions. The FAQ separates information for PM01, Remix, and the App; check the current documentation for the specific setup you plan to use.

How reliable are Polymega’s compatibility claims?
Polymega’s FAQ reports “over a 90% compatibility rate” for supported CD systems using its internal BIOS solutions, and says compatibility is “considerably higher” for cartridge games with Element Modules. Those figures are the company’s own estimates, not independent test results or a promise that a particular game will run. The same FAQ says there is no complete public compatibility list, which makes checking the live system matrix—and seeking confirmation for an exact title when possible—important for collectors with a narrow library.
The Polymega App page also advertises a “30,000+ Game Database.” That is a company-listed database feature, not an independently audited count; it should not be confused with a verified compatibility list.
Is Polymega worth it for a retro game collector?
Polymega makes the most sense if your collection spans supported disc systems and you value using original media in one modern setup. It is less compelling if you mainly own cartridges from several systems and do not want to buy the corresponding modules, or if you need confirmation that every specific title and regional variant will work before committing.
- Consider it if: you want disc play across several listed systems, or you are willing to add the module for the cartridge system you collect.
- Price the full setup if: you own multiple cartridge platforms; the console or PC setup is only part of the cost, since each cartridge family needs its matching module.
- Check compatibility first if: your library depends on particular regional releases, revisions, accessories, or a small number of must-play games.
- Wait or reassess if: you specifically want PM01 but its sold-out listing or the unannounced new-version details leave too much uncertainty.
For N64 collectors, Playmaji CEO Bryan Bernal described the then-announced N64 module as the company’s “most requested module” in a November 24, 2021 press release. That is historical context for the announcement, not a current independent assessment of compatibility or value.
