Major RPGs Announced in 2026—and What’s Actually Coming Out

A 2026 announcement does not guarantee a 2026 launch. Compare release windows, platforms, genre notes and current date status for five notable games.

“Announced in 2026” and “scheduled to release in 2026” are not the same thing. As of October 8, 2026, this researched selection includes games announced during 2026 with a 2026 release window, a 2026 launch date that has passed, or a later planned release. It is not a guaranteed complete list: “major” has no official definition, and the available announcements do not establish an exhaustive census.

Which RPGs were announced in 2026?

The clearest way to compare these games is to separate when they were announced from when they were planned to launch. “Date passed” below means the announced date or window has elapsed; it does not, by itself, confirm that a game actually shipped.

Game Announcement Announced release timing Platforms supported by the cited announcement Genre and status as of October 8, 2026
Crimson Moon February 12, 2026 Late 2026; no exact day stated PS5 Gothic action-adventure RPG; late-2026 window has not necessarily elapsed, and no exact release date is stated.
Rev. NOiR February 13, 2026 Initially announced without a 2026 date; KONAMI’s September 4 update schedules it for 2027 PS5; Xbox Series X|S and Steam were added in the September 4 update RPG; announced in 2026, but not a confirmed 2026 release.
Echoes of Aincrad March 5, 2026 July 10, 2026 PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC via Steam Action RPG; its announced launch date has passed, but the cited announcement alone does not confirm shipment.
Fable January 22, 2026 Autumn 2026; no exact day stated PS5 Open-world RPG; Autumn 2026 window has not necessarily elapsed. The cited announcement supports the PS5 window only.
RuneScape: Dragonwilds June 5, 2026 September 15, 2026, PC 1.0 launch PC Open-world co-op crafting and survival game; RPG-adjacent rather than an unambiguous RPG. Its announced 1.0 date has passed.

Which of these are actually scheduled for 2026?

Still within a 2026 release window

Crimson Moon was described by ProbablyMonsters design director Scott Brodie as a gothic action-adventure RPG for PS5. His February 12 PlayStation Blog post said the game was in final development and would launch in late 2026. That is a late-year window, not a confirmed day. The game follows a Nephilim protagonist seeking to reclaim the cursed city of Gildenarch.

Fable has an Autumn 2026 PS5 window in a January 22 PlayStation Blog post by Playground Games general manager and game director Ralph Fulton. Fulton described it as a new beginning, not a remake or sequel. Its open-world Albion features choices that affect NPC reactions and parts of the world. The cited post confirms the PS5 window; it should not be used to infer other platforms.

Announced dates that have passed

Echoes of Aincrad was announced by Bandai Namco on March 5 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, with a July 10 launch date. The publisher describes a player-created protagonist, avatar customization, real-time combat, equipment and skill progression, and an NPC partner. July 10 had passed by October 8; the announcement establishes the scheduled date, not whether the game shipped on it.

RuneScape: Dragonwilds was described by Jagex as an open-world co-op crafting and survival game, with a PC 1.0 launch planned for September 15. Jagex’s June 5, 2026 release also reported that the game had surpassed one million sales during Early Access. That figure refers to sales during the Early Access period, not a current lifetime total. Because Jagex’s description centers survival crafting, it is best treated as RPG-adjacent in a list with a broad genre boundary. The announced 1.0 date has passed; the cited release does not independently establish whether that launch occurred as planned.

Announced in 2026, but planned for 2027

Rev. NOiR is a 2026 announcement, not a confirmed 2026 release. KONAMI announced the PS5 RPG on February 13, describing a world affected by “light fall” and a journey involving an amnesiac boy and a special girl. In a September 4 update, KONAMI scheduled it for 2027 and added Xbox Series X|S and Steam to the announced platforms.

Why this is a selection, not a definitive “every RPG” list

“Major” is not a formal industry category, and RPG boundaries are debatable: a survival-crafting game such as Dragonwilds can share role-playing systems without being presented by its publisher as a conventional RPG. A GamesRadar October 1 roundup and Bandai Namco Europe’s RPG catalog offer additional release-calendar leads, but those listings alone do not establish each game’s original announcement year, current status, or genre fit. They are not enough to turn this selection into a verified census.

Release schedules can change. For a purchase or platform decision, check the relevant publisher’s current listing; a past scheduled date or an announced release window is not proof of current availability.
