Yes—but the return was a 2022 remake of the original game, not a new sequel, and its availability later changed. Rovio Classics: Angry Birds launched on March 31, 2022, recreating the 2012-era mobile game. Rovio Support says it was removed from Google Play in February 2023; on Apple’s App Store, it was listed as Red’s First Flight. Whether you can download it now depends on your storefront, region and account history.
What was Rovio Classics: Angry Birds?
Rovio announced Rovio Classics: Angry Birds on March 31, 2022, describing it as a recreation of the original game as it appeared in app stores in 2012. The original had been removed from app stores in 2019, according to the announcement. The 2022 release was therefore a return to the classic game, not a new numbered entry.
Rovio said the remake included all the original chapters, Easter eggs and extras from the game’s early-2012 form. Droid Life reported that it contained more than 390 levels; that figure is from the outlet’s launch coverage, not the Rovio announcement. The Mighty Eagle, which Rovio described as an in-app purchase in the original, was included in the remake at no additional charge.
What changed in the remake?
Rovio rebuilt the game in Unity, replacing its proprietary engine. The company said the change would provide a more sustainable platform for newer devices while retaining the original experience. That was the stated aim, not a claim that every detail was identical. Executive producer Sami Ronkainen said preserving the original’s feel, gameplay and appearance was crucial, while acknowledging that fans might notice small differences.

In short, the remake sought to restore the original game and its content while updating the technical foundation. It is more accurate to call it a recreation than a pixel-perfect port.
Can you still download it?
Availability depends on platform and account history. Rovio Support says Rovio Classics: Angry Birds was unlisted from Google Play on February 23, 2023. The same support page says it could still be found in Apple’s App Store under the name Red’s First Flight, and that people who had already downloaded it could continue playing it on those devices.

Why is Angry Birds called Red’s First Flight?
Red’s First Flight is the App Store name Rovio Support gives for the classic remake. It refers to the same return-to-the-original release discussed here, rather than a separate new sequel. Rovio’s support information specifically describes it as the name under which the game could be found in the App Store.
