If VALORANT agent voice lines are missing, first check the game’s Audio settings and output device, then check Windows’ selected output and VALORANT’s Volume Mixer level. If other sounds work but agent voice-over or sounds from ahead or behind are missing, review your speaker and spatial-audio configuration.
Start with the symptom
Work out whether all game audio is missing or whether the problem is limited to agent voice-over or sounds from particular directions. That distinction helps narrow the likely cause: a muted game or incorrect output can affect everything, while a speaker-layout or spatial-audio mismatch can affect only some sounds.
- No VALORANT audio: check in-game levels, the selected output, Windows output, and the app’s mixer level.
- Game sounds work, but agent voice-over is missing: check the same settings, then review speaker and spatial-audio routing.
- Sounds from directly ahead or behind are missing: prioritize speaker configuration and spatial-audio routing.
Check VALORANT’s Audio settings
- Open VALORANT’s Settings and select Audio.
- Confirm sound is enabled and the relevant volume controls are not set to zero.
- Check the game’s output device. Set it to the system default or choose the headset or speakers you are actually using.
- Apply any changes and test the game again.

Check Windows output and VALORANT’s Volume Mixer level
Windows may be sending audio to a different playback device than the one you are listening to, or VALORANT may be muted or turned down separately from system audio.

- Open Windows sound settings and confirm the selected output is your current headset or speakers.
- Open the Volume Mixer and check that VALORANT is not muted or set unusually low.
- Check the headset or speaker’s physical connection and its own volume control.
- Test VALORANT again after correcting any device or app-level setting.

Review stereo, surround, and spatial-audio routing
If most game audio works but some agent voice-over or directional sounds do not, check that the game and your audio setup agree about the speaker configuration. Riot warns that surround audio can route effects to rear speakers that are not part of your setup. A stereo setup is often the appropriate configuration when you use ordinary stereo headphones or speakers; use spatial audio only if it is supported and configured for your setup.

Riot’s VALORANT Patch Notes 8.0, dated January 9, 2024, documented a specific USB-headphone example: “I’m listening to the game on USB headphones and now I don’t hear my own Agent’s VO or certain sounds that are emitting from directly in front of me or behind me.” The patch notes are evidence of that version-specific issue, not proof that it is a current widespread bug.
Check the Windows output device properties
Riot also recommends reviewing the selected Windows playback device’s properties and turning off the option that lets applications take exclusive control of the device. The exact menu names and route to this setting differ across Windows versions, so look in the properties for the output device you are using rather than relying on a single universal path. Test VALORANT after changing the setting.

Escalate if the settings checks do not help
If audio is still missing after checking in-game settings, Windows routing, and speaker configuration, follow Riot’s remaining steps: try launching the game as an administrator, then reinstall VALORANT if the problem persists. If those steps do not resolve it, submit a ticket to Riot Support. Reinstallation is an escalation step, not a guaranteed fix for selective voice-line problems.
