Carian Grandeur is a weapon skill in ELDEN RING, not a sorcery. It turns a blade into a magical greatsword for an overhead strike, and charging the move adds up to two stronger attack stages. You can use it through the Ash of War: Carian Grandeur on eligible swords, or from the Carian Knight’s Sword, which has the skill innately.
What Carian Grandeur does
The skill raises the wielder’s blade, manifests a magical greatsword, then brings it down in an overhead attack. It can be charged through two additional levels, for three attack stages in total: uncharged, partly charged, and fully charged. The in-game description, reproduced in Eldenpedia’s skill entry, reads: “Carian royal prestige embodied in a skill. Transform blade into a magical greatsword and swing it down. Can be charged to increase its power by up to two levels.”

The reference entry lists a cost of 26 FP and stamina costs of 30, 40, and 60 for the uncharged, partly charged, and fully charged attacks, respectively. These are reference values, not results of new testing. Damage depends on factors including weapon upgrades and Intelligence, so the skill’s listed attack data should not be treated as a universal damage guarantee.
How to get Carian Grandeur
Find the Ash of War at Caria Manor
The Ash of War: Carian Grandeur is found on a body at Caria Manor in Liurnia of the Lakes. The described route is on the cliff southeast of Royal Moongazing Grounds: drop down through the levels toward a standalone gate along the route to Manor Lower Level. The Ash of War entry provides the location details.

Once obtained, the Ash can grant Carian Grandeur to eligible infusable swords and gives them Magic affinity. It can also be duplicated with Lost Ashes of War at Smithing Master Hewg, according to the same item entry.
Use the Carian Knight’s Sword
The Carian Knight’s Sword has Carian Grandeur as its innate skill. You do not need to apply the Ash of War to use the skill with that weapon.
Which weapons can use the Ash of War?
Do not assume the Ash works on every sword. Its entry lists compatible sword categories and excludes Colossal Swords and Backhand Blades. Check the current compatibility list on the Ash of War reference page before committing to a weapon; the Carian Knight’s Sword is a separate, innate route to the move.

What to consider before using it
- Charging takes commitment. The attack has two charge levels, so choosing a longer charge means staying with the move longer before the strike lands. The reference information here does not establish a performance ranking against other skills.
- Costs rise with the charge stage. FP is listed as 26, while the reference stamina costs are 30, 40, and 60 across the three stages.
- Damage is build-dependent. Weapon upgrades and Intelligence affect damage; reference attack-power figures should not be generalized across weapons and builds.
- Weapon choice matters. The Ash offers the skill and Magic affinity on eligible weapons, while the Carian Knight’s Sword carries the skill innately.
A direct comparison with another skill would need to account for charge time, recovery exposure, reach, FP and stamina costs, damage scaling, and hyper armor on the weapon and build being tested. The available reference material does not establish a universal best-use or damage ranking.

Bandai Namco’s version 1.17 patch notes, dated August 27, 2026, mention a change to Carian Sorcery Sword’s Intelligence scaling but do not name Carian Grandeur as receiving a balance change. That omission only describes what those notes list; it does not establish that Carian Grandeur has never been adjusted.
