In Don’t Starve Together, start by checking the host’s Master/server_log.txt and searching for SEED. Klei documents where that log is stored; the seed-line format comes from community guidance, so confirm the entry in your own file. You can also try the community-documented console expression print(TheWorld.meta.seed).
Find the seed in a Don’t Starve Together server log
- Locate the host’s Master log. On a local Windows server, Klei lists
DocumentsKleiDoNotStarveTogether#######Cluster_#Masterserver_log.txt. On Mac, look under~/Documents/Klei/DoNotStarveTogether/…/Master/; on Linux, look under~/.klei/DoNotStarveTogether/…/Master/. The numbered account and cluster folders vary by account and world slot. Klei’s DST log and file guide documents these locations. - Search the file for
SEEDorseed. A Steam Community post dated April 15, 2020, shows an example in the formSEED = 1579483343. That number is only an example; use the value in your world’s log. The community post is at “Restart on the same map”. - If you use Steam Cloud, check the archived shard log. Klei’s guide lists Master logs within the relevant
Master.zippath for Steam Cloud-enabled servers. - If you run a dedicated server, follow its configured cluster directory. The ordinary Documents path may not apply if the server uses a different persistent-storage root, configuration directory, or cluster name. Klei explains the relevant directory options in its dedicated-server command-line guide.
Try the console expression instead
A third-party DST world-generation mod repository documents print(TheWorld.meta.seed) as a way to display the seed. Open the in-game console using its configured key (tilde is the default on English keyboards), enter the expression, and check the console or log output. The expression appears in the repository’s world-generation seed mod instructions; its listed 1.0.1 release dates to December 16, 2019, and current compatibility is not established here.
If you are not the host, command context matters: the community DST console reference notes that many commands need to be run remotely. Output availability can therefore depend on whether you are hosting or using an appropriate remote command mode.
If you mean the original Don’t Starve
Do not assume the DST instructions work in the original single-player game. Klei documents the base game’s log as DocumentsKleiDoNotStarvelog.txt on PC, ~/Documents/Klei/DoNotStarve/log.txt on Mac, and ~/.klei/DoNotStarve/log.txt on Linux, but its base-game log guide does not give a seed-specific retrieval procedure. The available documentation does not verify that the log contains the seed or that the DST console expression applies.
