Yes. Games Workshop announced new Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game miniatures inspired by The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, including a boxed Battle of Edoras Starter Set. That confirmed movie tie-in is distinct from The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum: the film has been announced, but the sources reviewed do not confirm Games Workshop miniatures based on it.
Which movie are the new miniatures based on?
The confirmed models are inspired by The War of the Rohirrim, the animated Middle-earth film. Games Workshop’s Battle of Edoras Starter Set announcement describes the box as a new-edition Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game release tied to the movie. A separate Games Workshop announcement covers two new miniatures celebrating the film.
The title “the new movie” can also be read as The Hunt for Gollum. Middle-earth Enterprises’ film announcement establishes that project, but it does not announce a Games Workshop product tie-in. A targeted search of Warhammer Community for “Hunt for Gollum” miniatures returned no result. That search result does not prove no such models will ever be announced; it means a tie-in is not confirmed by the material available here.
What does the Battle of Edoras Starter Set include?
Games Workshop describes the box as a starter set for the new edition of its Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game. It includes miniatures and rules for the scenarios in the box. For larger games, the announcement points players to the Armies of The Lord of the Rings book.
#1 Best Overall
- 2 plastic miniatures for the Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game
- Add an inspiring hero to your Grief of Éomer, The Fiefdoms, Defenders of the Pelennor, and Men of the West armies
- Lead your knightly forces to victory, resplendent in finely wrought heavy armour
- Can be assembled both on foot and mounted on an armoured horse
The company’s overview of the range update describes updated rules and a refreshed range for the edition. These are Games Workshop’s descriptions of its own release; the announcements do not provide a detailed comparison of every rule change.
How do the other new models and journal fit in?
The King Helm announcement pairs two new film-inspired miniatures with the first Middle-earth Journal. Games Workshop says the journal contains an 11-battle campaign, scenarios, terrain-building guidance, and painting guides. That makes the release relevant not only to collectors looking for film-linked figures but also to players and hobbyists interested in campaign play and modelling.

What should you check before buying?
The official announcements establish the products and their broad contents, but do not establish current stock, regional availability, or price. Check Games Workshop’s current listing for your region before deciding whether the Battle of Edoras box is available or suits your needs. If you are buying for play beyond its included scenarios, check the requirements for the larger games you intend to play, including the referenced Armies of The Lord of the Rings book.
