To drain New Londo Ruins, get the Key to the Seal from Ingward, unlock the floodgate-control door in the tower, then pull the lever. After you acquire the Lordvessel, Ingward gives you the key when you speak to him. You can kill him to obtain it earlier, but doing so removes his curse-related services.
Get the Key to the Seal
Ingward is on the roof of a building in the upper ruins. Enter the central building and climb the ladder inside the fireplace-like structure to reach him.

| Speak to Ingward | After acquiring the Lordvessel | Preserves Ingward and his curse-related services. |
| Kill Ingward | Earlier in your progress; he drops the key | You lose access to his curse-related services. |
If you do not need to drain the area before obtaining the Lordvessel, speaking to Ingward avoids sacrificing his services.
Find and operate the floodgate lever
- From Ingward’s roof, descend the ladder and stairs, then pass through the door.
- Turn left down the stairs, then take the next left door. Follow the path as it curves up toward the tower.
- Inside the tower, go down the short flight of stairs to the locked door. Use the Key to the Seal to unlock it.
- Operate the lever beyond the door to open the floodgates and drain the water.
Ghosts make this route hazardous: they can attack through walls and may follow you as you descend from Ingward. Watch for them rather than assuming the way back is clear.
