The original 2009 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has nine assault rifles in its multiplayer roster: M4A1, FAMAS, SCAR-H, TAR-21, FAL, M16A4, ACR, F2000, and AK-47. The list below gives each rifle’s multiplayer unlock level and reference-listed magazine capacity; these are in-game values, not real-world firearm specifications.
Which assault rifles are in the original MW2?
The nine rifles below are the multiplayer assault-rifle roster. Unlock levels and magazine capacities are reported by a community-maintained weapon reference; campaign and Spec Ops availability or inventory values should not be assumed to match multiplayer data. The capacity column reflects that reference’s multiplayer table. In particular, the SCAR-H is listed with 20 rounds there; do not carry that figure over to campaign or another version or mode without checking its separate inventory data.

Available at level 1
The M4A1 and FAMAS are both listed as available from level 1.

Unlocks from levels 8 to 28
SCAR-H unlocks at level 8, TAR-21 at level 20, and FAL at level 28.
Unlocks from levels 40 to 70
The later group is M16A4 at level 40, ACR at 48, F2000 at 60, and AK-47 at 70. The AK-47 is therefore the last rifle to unlock in this roster.

How the rifles differ in play
A gaming guide offers broad handling characterizations rather than controlled performance measurements. It describes the M4A1 as an accessible, balanced all-rounder; the FAMAS as a three-round-burst rifle; the SCAR-H as hard-hitting but limited by its smaller magazine; and the TAR-21 as strong at close to medium range, with recoil that makes long-range use more difficult. Read the guide’s assault-rifle overview.
The reference also identifies the M16A4 as a three-round-burst rifle. The FAL belongs to the assault-rifle class in the multiplayer table, but that classification alone does not mean it fires fully automatically. The available guide does not establish a comparable handling assessment for every rifle, so it is better to use the roster and unlock table than to treat these descriptions as a complete weapon ranking.

What these figures do—and do not—cover
The unlock levels and magazine capacities above describe multiplayer in the original 2009 game. They are neither real-world specifications nor a combined list of everything available across campaign, Spec Ops, and multiplayer.
