As listed in Mobalytics’ guide updated September 12, 2026, Borderlands 4 has 13 reported legendary armor shields and 12 reported legendary energy shields. The tables below give each shield’s reported effect and acquisition source. This is a dated, community-maintained list—not a live-client-verified or officially confirmed inventory—so check current item cards and availability in game.
How to use this list
Armor shields and energy shields are separate categories here. To compare them, start with the event that triggers an effect—such as a kill, segment break, fill, depletion, melee hit, slide, or status-effect damage—then consider its payoff: survival, resistance, healing, overshield, ammunition, crowd control, or damage. The entries below report locations and mechanics, not drop probabilities or tested rankings; they do not establish a universal best shield.

Patch changes to note
Borderlands Support’s version 1.6 patch notes, published April 29 and updated July 2, 2026, document behavior changes for two entries. Heavyweight consumes an armor segment only when the melee attack will be boosted by it. Protean Cell’s Direct Current activates only while the shield has energy. Those notes illustrate why a brief guide description may not capture current item behavior; consult the current item card and patch notes when a mechanic matters to your build.
