Wordle #1705 was the puzzle for Wednesday, February 18, 2026. That date has passed, so this is an archived hint sequence for that puzzle, not the current daily game. The answer is below a spoiler break, after the hints, so you can stop at whichever clue gets you there.
Hints for Wordle #1705, from broad to specific
Work through these in order. Each one narrows the field without giving the word away.
- Letter count and repeats. The word has five letters, and all five are different. No letter appears twice.
- Vowel pattern. It has two vowels and three consonants, arranged consonant-vowel-consonant-vowel-consonant (CVCVC).
- Which vowels and where the word starts and ends. The two vowels are O and U. The word begins with M and ends with L.
- Meaning. The word has two common senses that puzzle-answer sites use as clues. The first is a powerful or influential business figure, often called a “powerful business magnate.” The second is a bump on a ski slope that a skier navigates in freestyle skiing.
A starting word that helped some players
One puzzle-answer page from the same period suggested AUDIO as an opening guess because it tests several of the letters that matter here. That was the page’s own suggestion, not a tested strategy or an official recommendation from the game’s developers.

The word fits both clues above. In business, a mogul is a dominant figure in an industry, such as a media or tech mogul. On a ski slope, a mogul is one of the series of bumps that freestyle skiers use as obstacles and jumps.
How confident the answer is
The answer and clue details come from several independent puzzle-answer websites that published them at the time. The official New York Times Wordle page could not be checked directly for this article, so treat MOGUL as well-corroborated by secondary sources rather than confirmed by the publisher.
