The standout TGS-period news included Xbox’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 reveal and Persona 4 Revival character news, plus Hideo Kojima’s surprise appearance with updates on OD – KNOCK and PHYSINT. The PC Gaming Show Tokyo Direct added a separate slate of game reveals and updates. These are notable highlights, not a definitive ranking: no independent cross-publisher tally establishes which announcements were biggest overall.
Tokyo Game Show 2026 ran for four days, not the five originally planned
The Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association (CESA) scheduled the 30th-anniversary show for September 17–21 at Makuhari Messe and TKP Tokyo Bay Makuhari Hall. September 17–18 were business days, followed by public days scheduled for September 19–21. Severe weather forced organizers to cancel September 21, so the in-person event did not complete its planned five-day run—the longest-ever run the organizer had advertised.
Konami’s official event page confirmed the cancellation and said planned livestreams would be adjusted. The TGS homepage also posted a typhoon notice on September 19 and a ticket-refund notice on September 25.
Xbox’s broadcast delivered a broad slate of reveals and updates
Xbox Wire’s September 17 recap said the broadcast featured 17 fresh gameplay reveals and announcements, along with a surprise release and a world premiere. That count describes Xbox’s own show, not all of Tokyo Game Show. Xbox Wire editor Danielle Partis wrote: “The show featured 17 fresh gameplay reveals, announcements, a surprise release, and a world premiere.”

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 set the clearest release date
Xbox highlighted a campaign trailer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 and gave October 23, 2026, as its launch date. Its recap said Campaign Early Access begins October 16 for people who preorder the Standard Digital Edition or Vault Edition; it did not specify a physical edition in that offer.
Persona, Crazy Taxi, and other games brought new footage or details
- Persona 4 Revival had a character reveal.
- Crazy Taxi: World Tour showed Japan as a location.
- Faraday Blues received a world premiere.
- Bloomwalker had new gameplay.
- A Fallout 76 update was among the other featured news.
Xbox Wire’s recap also described updates from Activision, Bethesda, KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS, KOEI TECMO, and SEGA. Those details reflect Xbox’s presentation and do not constitute a complete account of the show floor or other publishers’ broadcasts.

Hideo Kojima’s appearance added a late-show surprise
The broadcast ended with Hideo Kojima discussing OD – KNOCK and PHYSINT. Xbox Wire reported that Bill Skarsgård would play the lead role in PHYSINT. The appearance and casting news are among the clearest candidates for the event-period “surprise” angle, rather than a measured claim about audience reaction.
Publisher booths emphasized demos, exhibits, and attendee activities
Konami showed a mix of named games and floor activities
Konami’s official TGS page highlighted Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse and Rhapsody in Scarlet. It also listed SILENT HILL: Townfall, Rev. NOiR, and Wai Wai World Craft, with activities described as demos, streaming, or exhibitions. These examples show the breadth of the booth program; the page does not rank them by overall importance.

Square Enix and SEGA/ATLUS focused on booth experiences
Square Enix advertised a FINAL FANTASY VII REVELATION demo, franchise photo spots, and other booth activities. SEGA’s corporate announcement covered SEGA/ATLUS booth activities and giveaways. These are useful signs of what attendees could encounter, rather than evidence of a particular major reveal.
The PC Gaming Show Tokyo Direct was a separate showcase
Held September 20 during the TGS period, the PC Gaming Show Tokyo Direct was its own presentation—not the whole fair or a TGS-organizer announcement roundup. PC Gamer’s recap counted 36 games and DLC, including 13 world premieres. The count belongs to PC Gamer’s coverage of that broadcast and should not be added to Xbox’s count as though both measured one event-wide total.

Among the examples PC Gamer covered were Beautiful Freaks of the Desert, The Hollowing, Wane, and Fish & Ships. The recap also covered updates and release timing for Young Suns, Hellcard 2, and Mycopunk. The Direct therefore supplied a distinct stream of announcements, including smaller and independent titles, alongside the larger publisher material.

The available figures measure different things: Xbox Wire counted its broadcast’s reveals and announcements, while PC Gamer counted games and DLC in a separate presentation. Neither provides a cross-publisher ranking. A practical way to compare the highlights is to distinguish a world premiere from an update, new gameplay from release-date or availability news, and a publisher broadcast from a show-floor demo. The sources establish examples in those categories, but not audience impact, sales impact, or which announcement drew the most attention.
