Six games in this shortlist have a verified 4 GB RAM minimum: Ravenfield, The Long Dark, Insurgency, Barotrauma, Disco Elysium and Divinity: Original Sin 2. That memory figure is only one part of compatibility, not a promise that a game will run smoothly—or at all—on every PC with 4 GB of RAM. Steam says meeting minimum requirements alone does not guarantee high frame rates or strong performance.
What a 4 GB RAM minimum tells you—and what it doesn’t
A game’s minimum RAM figure describes one requirement, not a complete compatibility verdict. Your processor, graphics hardware, operating system, storage and the memory available after Windows and other programs are running also matter. Check the full, current requirements for your exact PC before buying or installing a game.
Steam explains that meeting a game’s minimum requirements does not guarantee high FPS or strong in-game performance. It also notes that too little available RAM can lead to disk swapping, which may hurt performance. A 4 GB minimum should therefore be treated as a screening clue, not a performance promise.

How to improve your chances on a 4 GB PC
- Check the whole requirement list. Compare your CPU, graphics hardware, operating system and available storage as well as RAM with the game’s current listing.
- Free up memory. Close applications you do not need while playing. Steam notes that insufficient available RAM can cause disk swapping.
- Reduce demanding graphics settings. Steam suggests lowering shader detail and trying windowed mode on systems with integrated graphics. These adjustments may help, but results vary by PC and game.
- Set expectations carefully. A game may launch but still perform poorly; meeting minimum requirements is not a guarantee of high FPS or smooth play.
