This is an editorial shortlist, not an official Behaviour ranking: it weighs character and gameplay distinctiveness, how many characters a chapter includes, the appeal of its license, and exclusive chapter items. Your favorite franchise or character may matter more than the order below.
How to choose a licensed Dead by Daylight DLC
A Chapter purchase unlocks its listed Killer and/or Survivor characters and any included exclusive items. It does not gate the map: Behaviour says maps remain free for all players. Check the official Chapters page for the general rule, and note that Steam’s Alien Chapter Pack listing likewise identifies Nostromo Wreckage as available to all players.

Licensed Chapters are sold individually, and Behaviour says their characters and cosmetics can also be purchased in the in-game Store. The best route depends on what you want: buy the chapter for its bundled contents, or check the Store if you only want a particular character or cosmetic. Availability and prices can vary by platform and region, so confirm the listing for your account before paying. See Behaviour’s Gold Edition & DLC Packs FAQ.
The ranking below is a recommendation for different kinds of players, not a claim about current competitive strength. Killer and perk balance can change with updates; no dated comparative balance evidence supports ranking these chapters by power.

#1 Best Overall
- Lots of new Content, Small Price - Contains the original game, The Curtain Call Chapter, Shattered Bloodline Chapter, the Headcase Cosmetic Pack, and Stranger Things which includes Steve, Nancy and the terrifying Demogorgon!
- Also Includes the Extra Content from the Original Release - The original retail release included 4 extra pieces of content! The 80's Suitcase, The Bloodstained Sack, The Of Flesh and Mud, and The Spark of Madness add-ons!
- Survive Together. Or Not - Survivors can either cooperate with the others or be selfish. Chances for survival depend on your decisions.
- Where Am I? - Each level is procedurally generated, so you'll never know what to expect. Random spawn points mean you will never feel safe as the world, and its dangers, change every time you play.
- Real People, Real Fear - You'll never know how things will turn out. Ambience, music, and chilling environments combine into a terrifying experience. With enough time, you might even discover what's hiding in the fog.
Top 10 licensed DLC recommendations
1. Alien — for distinctive Killer movement and sci-fi horror
The Alien chapter pairs the Xenomorph with Ellen Ripley. Its standout appeal is the Xenomorph’s tunnel-traversal gameplay, which gives this license a particularly recognizable gameplay identity. Choose it if you want a Killer whose movement is central to the fantasy, or if Ripley is the character you want to play. The Nostromo Wreckage map is free for all players, not exclusive to the purchase. Details appear on the Steam Alien Chapter Pack page.
2. Stranger Things Chapter 2 — for a three-character package
Steam’s DLC catalog lists Vecna, Dustin Henderson, and Eleven in Stranger Things Chapter 2. It is a strong pick if you want several recognizable characters from one license rather than a chapter centered on a single character. Check the live listing for the exact included items on your platform; the catalog’s inclusion of these characters does not establish a comparative value or balance advantage. Steam’s Dead by Daylight DLC catalog lists the chapter.
3. The Walking Dead — for Rick Grimes and Michonne
This chapter suits players who want two central characters from The Walking Dead in Dead by Daylight. Steam lists Rick Grimes and Michonne among the recent licensed additions. It is an easy choice when those survivors, rather than a new Killer playstyle, are the main reason you are shopping. Confirm the specific chapter contents in your storefront before purchase. Steam’s DLC catalog lists the license and characters.
4. Five Nights at Freddy’s — for Springtrap fans
Steam’s catalog lists Springtrap as the Five Nights at Freddy’s addition. If Springtrap is the draw, this is the direct licensed pick; the available catalog evidence does not establish a broader character count or a comparative gameplay verdict. Review your platform’s product page for the exact contents. Steam’s DLC catalog includes the addition.
5. Tokyo Ghoul — for fans of the anime license
Tokyo Ghoul is among the licensed additions in Steam’s current catalog. That makes it worth considering if the license itself is your priority. The catalog information cited here does not provide enough detail to compare its gameplay or included characters with the other picks, so use the live product listing to verify what your purchase unlocks. Steam’s DLC catalog lists Tokyo Ghoul.
6. Jason — for slasher-franchise appeal
Jason appears among the recent licensed additions in Steam’s catalog. Choose this one if the character and franchise are what you most want from a licensed chapter; the source listing cited here does not support a claim about character count, exclusive items, or relative strength. Confirm the specific contents and availability in your storefront. Steam’s DLC catalog includes Jason.
7. A licensed chapter built around your favorite Killer
If your priority is playing a particular licensed Killer, put that character ahead of an abstract ranking. Behaviour’s Chapters catalog is the place to compare official chapter contents. A character’s inclusion is a more reliable reason to buy than an assumption that the chapter is currently stronger in matches.
8. A licensed chapter built around your favorite Survivor
Likewise, choose by the Survivor you actually want to play. Check the chapter page and the in-game Store: licensed characters can be obtained through the Store as well as through individual licensed Chapter purchases, according to Behaviour’s DLC FAQ. Compare the available purchase options for your platform and region.
9. A two-character chapter, if variety matters
When you want more than one character from a license, look for chapters whose storefront listing names multiple characters. The current Steam catalog specifically identifies Stranger Things Chapter 2 with Vecna, Dustin Henderson, and Eleven, and The Walking Dead with Rick Grimes and Michonne. These are the clearest multi-character choices supported by the catalog cited here; confirm chapter contents on your own platform.
10. The license you care about most
For a tie-breaker, choose the world or character you are happiest to see in Dead by Daylight. The official catalog establishes available licensed additions, but it does not publish a comparative best-to-worst ranking or a suitable popularity statistic. That leaves personal attachment, desired character, and the chapter’s listed contents as better buying criteria than unsupported claims about consensus.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What to check before buying
- Verify the contents. Read the chapter’s current platform listing to see which characters and exclusive items are included.
- Compare chapter and Store options. Behaviour says licensed Chapters remain individual purchases and licensed characters and cosmetics can also be bought in the in-game Store; check which option matches what you want.
- Do not pay for map access. Behaviour says maps remain free for all players, including the Nostromo Wreckage identified in Steam’s Alien listing.
- Keep original-content packs separate. Behaviour describes Gold Edition and DLC packs as original-content offerings and distinguishes them from licensed Chapters. They are not a way to buy the licensed DLC discussed here. See the packs announcement and FAQ.
Why Halloween is not on this buyable list
Behaviour announced that the Halloween Chapter would stop being unlockable on January 19, 2026, and that its perks would enter the general perk pool. Since that date has passed, it is not a current purchase recommendation. Players who already own its content should distinguish that from whether a new buyer can unlock it. See Behaviour’s announcement.
Where to confirm the current catalog
Storefront catalogs can change, and a Steam listing does not guarantee the same price or availability on console or in every region. Use the Steam DLC catalog as a current catalog reference for PC, and check the matching product page for your own platform before purchase. Behaviour’s official Chapters page provides the publisher’s chapter and map policy information.
