It covers the opening through the prologue, with early quests and side events, and its save data can carry into the full game. The demo launched in August 2025; it is not a new 2026 release.
Where to get the demo
The official demo page links to the Nintendo eShop, PlayStation Store, and Steam. Choose the version for the platform where you plan to play; the sources do not establish that demo saves can move between platforms.
What the demo includes
The trial follows the beginning of the Liberl arc, through the end of the prologue, including early quests and side events. High-speed mode and BGM switching are also available. Nihon Falcom announced the demo on August 21, 2025, and does not state an expected playtime in its launch announcement.
This is a trial of the full game, not a separate standalone story. Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter stars Estelle and Joshua as they investigate conspiracies threatening peace in the Liberl Kingdom. Steam lists Nihon Falcom as developer, GungHo Online Entertainment America as publisher, and September 19, 2025, as the full game’s release date; see the Steam listing.

How to transfer your demo save
The official site says, “Save data created in the demo version can be transferred to the full version of the game.” Update the full game to its latest version and use the same PlayStation Network or Nintendo account. The transfer menu depends on platform:
- PS5: From the full game’s title screen, choose Load Game and load the demo data. Trophies cannot be earned through transferred demo save data.
- Steam/PC: From the full game’s title screen, choose Load Game and load the demo data.
- Nintendo Switch: Select Transfer.
These instructions are for continuing a save on the same platform; no cross-platform transfer is confirmed.

Version 4.0 of the Remote Play App on iOS and iPadOS or version 4.1 on macOS is required for games to be playable with the controller over Bluetooth.
Which platform should you choose?
Pick the platform where you expect to play the full game. Save transfer is supported, but it is tied to the platform’s stated menu and account requirements, and the official instructions do not promise that a save can move from PS5 to PC or Switch, or vice versa.
The full game has also received updates since launch. The publisher’s Steam announcements describe a version 1.07 Legacy Patch in August 2026, which aligned some English terminology and pronunciations with later entries and updated French and German text. For demo-save transfer, the practical requirement is simply to update the full game to its latest version.
