Tracktail Lizards are found in the Windward Plains, with useful search areas in Area 11 and Area 13. Check the rocky edge of the dunes in Area 11 first, or search around the Area 13 oasis and its connection to Area 12. Have the Capture Net ready and approach carefully: the lizard can flee or burrow if startled.
Where to look in the Windward Plains
Both reported search spots are in the Windward Plains. Choose the one that is easiest to reach from your current camp, then try the other if the lizard is not there.

How to capture a Tracktail Lizard
- Equip the Capture Net. Select it from the item wheel before approaching the target.
- Move in carefully. Crouch or sneak toward the lizard so you are less likely to startle it. Look for its long-tailed shape; it may prop itself upright when startled.
- Aim and fire when in range. Point the Capture Net at the lizard and fire when the aiming indicator turns orange.
If startled, a Tracktail Lizard may flee or burrow, so having the net selected in advance helps you act quickly. These steps are described in PC Gamer’s capture instructions.
Using the lizard for Dareel’s Research Report
If you are completing Dareel’s Research Report, accept the request before capturing a Tracktail Lizard. Capture one with the Capture Net, then return to Dareel to complete the request. PowerPyx’s guide describes the quest objective and turn-in.

If the Tracktail Lizard is missing
The reported spots are potential locations, not guaranteed appearances on every visit. Search the other area, or leave and return to refresh the endemic population. Guides differ on refresh details, so an exact wait time or reset method is not established. The available location guides also do not establish a guaranteed spawn rate, season, or time-of-day condition. PowerPyx and Gamer Guides both caution that a creature may be absent from a fixed spot on a given visit.
