The Game Awards 2025 reveal introduced two different Lara Croft adventures: Tomb Raider: Catalyst, a new story set in Northern India, and Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, a reimagining of the 1996 original. Both are now announced for 2027, but only Legacy of Atlantis has an exact release date: February 12, 2027.
What are the two new Tomb Raider games?
Crystal Dynamics announced both games on December 11, 2025, at The Game Awards. They are not two sequels doing the same job: Catalyst advances Lara’s story with a new adventure, while Legacy of Atlantis revisits the series’ first game. Both are developed using Unreal Engine 5 and feature Alix Wilton Regan as Lara Croft, according to the official Tomb Raider announcement and Amazon’s announcement.

What is Tomb Raider: Catalyst about?
Catalyst is a new chapter rather than a remake. A mythical cataclysm in Northern India brings ancient secrets and mysterious guardian forces to the surface, drawing Lara into a fractured landscape populated by rival treasure hunters. The announcement promises tombs, puzzles, and a large world with substantial verticality; it does not provide a more specific release day than 2027.
Crystal Dynamics Studio Creative Director Noah Hughes described the series’ aim as “adventure-fueled experiences that entertain, inspire, and empower audiences.”

What is Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis?
Legacy of Atlantis reimagines the original Tomb Raider, released in 1996, rather than simply republishing it. Its announcement describes modern visuals and gameplay intended to honor the original’s spirit. Xbox Wire’s promotional description says Lara travels through Peru, Greece, Egypt, and a mythical Mediterranean island in pursuit of pieces of the Scion; those details are part of the publisher’s description, not independent confirmation of specific gameplay systems.
The first reveal gave the game a 2026 window. Crystal Dynamics’ later June 2, 2026 preorder announcement superseded that window and set its release for February 12, 2027.

When do the games come out, and where can you play them?
Both games are currently announced for 2027. The exact February 12 date applies to Legacy of Atlantis only; the reveal announcement gives Catalyst the year 2027 without a day or month.

The June 2, 2026 announcement says preorders were open on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam for three editions. It also said physical retail preorders were expected at select retailers in the coming days. Check current store listings for availability and final contents, as stock and preorder details can change.

Why are two Tomb Raider games arriving in the same year?
The announcements position the games as complementary projects: one expands Lara’s adventures with a new setting and story, while the other reimagines where the franchise began. Their shared 2027 window also coincides with the series’ 30th anniversary, which Crystal Dynamics identified in the original announcement.
Amazon Game Studios VP Christoph Hartmann said the partnership with Crystal Dynamics would bring “two distinct Lara Croft adventures to players worldwide.”
