Ubisoft said its 2020 holiday games would keep the previous console generation’s price level—reported as $60 in the U.S.—rather than move to $70. The statement covered that Christmas season, not every next-generation game Ubisoft would release later.
What Ubisoft said about next-gen game prices
In a July 22, 2020 report, GameSpot said Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot gave the answer during an earnings call. GameSpot quoted him as saying: “For the Christmas games, we plan to come with the same price as the previous generation of consoles,” followed by, “That’s what we’re focused on at the moment.” GameSpot’s report framed the previous-generation price as $60 and the possible next-generation increase as $70.

The key qualification is the phrase “Christmas games”: Ubisoft was describing its 2020 holiday releases. It did not use that exchange to promise that all later next-gen games would remain $60. The quoted wording is attributed to GameSpot’s contemporaneous account; an official transcript of that specific exchange is not established here.
Which games were part of the 2020 discussion?
GameSpot associated the pricing answer with next-generation versions of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Watch Dogs: Legion. Ubisoft’s official next-generation launch overview listed both games for the new consoles in November 2020.

Did the $60 statement apply to every console, edition, or region?
No such broad scope was established by the reported answer. GameSpot described $60 as the U.S. price level, while Ubisoft’s statement referred to its 2020 Christmas games. It should not be read as a confirmed price for every region or edition, or as a general policy for games released after that holiday period.
Ubisoft separately described no-additional-cost upgrades for eligible cross-generation purchases: specified Xbox One X copies of these games could be upgraded to Xbox Series X|S, and specified PS4 copies to PS5. That launch-era upgrade information is distinct from the $60 pricing claim; it does not establish current store terms or present-day compatibility. Ubisoft’s FY2020–21 first-half earnings release covered the six months ended September 30, 2020, but does not substantiate the specific $60 statement.

What this means for the $60-versus-$70 question
For Ubisoft’s 2020 holiday releases, the reported answer was price parity with the previous console generation, not a move to $70. For later Ubisoft releases, the July 2020 exchange left the price undecided. It also said nothing definitive about what other publishers would charge for their own PS5 or Xbox Series X|S games.
