The October 2025 headline describes two separate actions, not one confirmed Ubisoft-wide layoff total: a voluntary career-transition offer at Massive Entertainment in Malmö, Sweden, and a restructuring proposal at RedLynx in Helsinki that could affect up to 60 workers if implemented. Later reports described additional proposed reductions and company-wide headcount changes, but those figures have different dates, locations and statuses.
What Ubisoft announced in October 2025
In a report published October 23, 2025, Engadget said that Ubisoft’s Massive Entertainment was offering some employees at its Malmö studio a “voluntary career transition program” with financial and career assistance. The offer was described as primarily targeting employees between projects and awaiting new assignments, with a December 13 deadline for employees to volunteer. Engadget attributed that detail to French publication Le Figaro. Massive said its focus was The Division series, the Snowdrop engine and Ubisoft Connect, and said the program would “realign” teams and “strengthen our roadmap.” Engadget’s October 23 report quoted the studio’s description of the package.
Massive Entertainment: voluntary departures in Malmö
This was an offer to volunteer for a career transition, not a stated number of confirmed job losses. The report did not give a total number of employees who would take the package. The December 13 date was the reported deadline to volunteer, not a date on which layoffs were said to occur.
RedLynx: a separate proposal in Helsinki
Separately, Helsinki-based RedLynx announced a restructuring proposal. Engadget reported that RedLynx said the proposal, if implemented, could result in a maximum of 60 workers being let go. That is a potential maximum attached to a proposal, not a completed layoff count. RedLynx described the plan as part of Ubisoft’s global effort to simplify, reduce costs and improve prioritization and efficiency.

How these actions fit Ubisoft’s wider restructuring
Ubisoft’s H1 FY2025–26 earnings release, published in November 2025, reported 17,097 employees globally at the end of September 2025. The company said that was about 1,500 fewer than a year earlier and around 700 fewer than at the end of March 2025. It also said a targeted Voluntary Leave Program and proposed restructuring were introduced at Nordic studios in October. These company-wide headcount changes cover a broader period and cannot be attributed solely to the Malmö offer or RedLynx proposal. Ubisoft’s investor releases provide the company’s financial reporting.
What later reports said about proposed cuts
Massive Entertainment and Ubisoft Stockholm: approximately 55 roles
On January 13, 2026, PC Gamer reported, citing Ubisoft, that a proposed organizational restructuring could affect approximately 55 roles across Massive Entertainment and Ubisoft Stockholm. Ubisoft said the proposal followed completion of the fall 2025 Voluntary Leave Program, a finalized roadmap, and staffing and appointment processes. The figure describes roles potentially affected by a proposal, not 55 confirmed layoffs. PC Gamer’s January 13 report gives the company’s stated context.

Ubisoft France headquarters: a 200-position objective
In February 2026, Ubisoft’s Q3 FY2025–26 sales release said consultations had begun with employee representatives on an objective to reduce France headquarters headcount by 200 positions through a voluntary departure plan. This was a plan objective under consultation, not a reported completed reduction. It is separate from the Nordic studio actions.
Barcelona: a reported collective dismissal process
El País reported on July 16, 2026, that Ubisoft had filed a collective dismissal process affecting 51 workers in Barcelona. The same article attributed proposed cuts in Belgrade and Winnipeg to unions; those claims should be understood as union-attributed reporting, not independently confirmed Ubisoft actions. El País’s July 16 report covers the Barcelona process and the claims attributed to unions.

Ubisoft’s reported headcount by March 2026
Ubisoft’s annual results, published May 20, 2026, put total company headcount at 16,590 at the end of March 2026, around 1,200 fewer than a year earlier. The company also said it was entering the third and final phase of its cost-reduction program, targeting a fixed-cost base of €1.25 billion on a run-rate basis by March 2028, supported by recruitment discipline and targeted restructurings. The €1.25 billion figure is a future fixed-cost-base target, not a jobs target. Neither the headcount change nor the cost target identifies how many people left through any one program.
