What Ubisoft said about Star Wars Outlaws’ sales
In its September 25, 2024 financial update, Ubisoft reported that Outlaws’ initial sales “proved softer than expected.” That is the company’s description, not a quantified result: the release did not state how many copies the game sold or how far sales fell short of expectations.

Ubisoft also cited a Metacritic score of 76 and a 3.9/5 aggregate user score across its first-party and Epic stores. Those reception figures are separate from sales and do not show how many people bought the game.
Why did Assassin’s Creed Shadows get delayed?
Ubisoft said the Outlaws launch prompted it to give Shadows additional time for polish. Its September statement described the game as feature complete and said the company had learned lessons from Outlaws’ release. This is Ubisoft’s stated rationale; the announcement does not show that Outlaws’ sales, by themselves, caused the delay.

The first delay moved Shadows from November 15, 2024, the date in Ubisoft’s July release slate, to February 14, 2025. Ubisoft also said all players would receive the same February release date, preorders would include the first expansion at no extra cost, and the game would return to simultaneous day-one releases on Steam.

What Ubisoft’s financial update changed
Ubisoft cut its FY2024–25 outlook in September 2024, projecting net bookings of around €1.95 billion and non-IFRS operating income and free cash flow around break-even. It said the revised targets mainly reflected decisions concerning Shadows and Outlaws’ softer-than-expected launch. CEO Yves Guillemot said the company’s second-quarter performance had fallen short of expectations and that Ubisoft was responding with a greater focus on a “player-centric, gameplay-first approach.”
The figures describe Ubisoft’s revised company-wide outlook, not Outlaws revenue or unit sales. The release does not assign a specific share of the outlook change to either game.

Later context: Outlaws on Nintendo Switch 2
Ubisoft later reported that Star Wars Outlaws launched on Nintendo Switch 2 in September 2025 and that the release expanded its audience. That later release is additional context; it does not change what Ubisoft said about the game’s original launch in 2024.
