To make a Star Gem in Bejeweled Blitz, match five gems of the same color in a T or L shape. A straight line of five makes a Hypercube instead. In each 60-second round, look for four matching gems that a single swap could arrange into a T or L, then complete the shape when it fits the board.
What shape makes a Star Gem?
PopCap Games and Electronic Arts’ Bejeweled 3 Xbox Manual describes a Star Gem as the result of matching five gems in a T or L shape. The same manual distinguishes a Hypercube, which is made by matching five gems in a straight line. The manual is for Bejeweled 3, not a Blitz-specific rules guide; EA’s current Bejeweled Blitz Google Play listing confirms that Blitz includes Star Gems and Hypercubes.

The distinction is the arrangement, not just the number of gems. A five-gem line is not the pattern to aim for when you want a Star Gem.
How to spot a Star Gem opportunity quickly
EA describes Blitz as “One minute of match-3 fun!” with matches that can create cascades and special gems. That short round makes it useful to scan for near-complete shapes rather than trying to plan far ahead.

- Check that the swap actually joins five same-color gems in that shape; a straight five would make a Hypercube instead.
- Make the shape-forming move when it is available and does not leave a more immediate match unnoticed.
- After the gems clear, scan the changed board for another quick match or a new near-complete shape.
This is a practical approach based on the documented pattern and the one-minute format, not a guarantee of a particular number of Star Gems or a higher score.
When to match a Star Gem
Morning Reward’s Bejeweled Blitz guide says matching a Star Gem clears its row and column. It recommends using that cross where it can reach other special gems or help produce cascades. Treat this as secondary strategy guidance rather than an official EA rule or a promise of a score increase.

In practice, consider what lies in the Star Gem’s row and column before triggering it. If the cross can connect with other specials or set up a cascade, that may make the match more useful than activating it without checking the surrounding board.

The Google Play listing identifies Electronic Arts as the publisher, describes the game as a 60-second match-three experience, and names Star Gems among its special gems. The US App Store listing describes the app as free with in-app purchases, including virtual currency and virtual items. Store availability and details can vary by platform and region.

The Google Play listing also reports that over 125 million people worldwide have played the game. That is EA’s publisher-reported reach figure, not a current active-player count or a statistic about how often Star Gems appear. The game is a digital app with optional virtual purchases; the cited listings do not establish a physical item that helps create Star Gems.
