A 13-year-old can use Roblox Voice Chat after completing an age check, if the feature is available in their region and the game they join supports voice. The account holder must then turn it on in that experience; Roblox says Voice Chat is not enabled by default. Roblox Support explains how to enable Voice Chat.
What a 13-year-old needs before using Voice Chat
Turning 13 makes an account eligible to complete Roblox’s age-check process, but age alone does not switch on voice. Access also depends on an available age-check method, regional availability, whether the experience supports Voice Chat, and any parental restrictions.
- Complete an age check. Roblox’s current Voice Chat instructions name Facial Age Estimation and ID verification as routes. Phone verification is not a valid way to gain Voice Chat access.
- Use a supported region and experience. Roblox says Voice Chat may not be available everywhere, and individual experiences choose whether to support it.
- Opt in after joining. Voice Chat is off by default; the user must connect using the experience’s controls.
- Check parental controls. A parent can restrict voice and other communication features.
Roblox’s Voice FAQ lists supported regions and platforms. Consult it if the option is missing or availability is uncertain; regional and device support can change.
Choose an age-check method

Turn on Voice Chat
- Sign in to the correct account. Check whether it has completed an age check. If not, follow Roblox’s available age-check option. If you choose ID verification, you must be 13 or older and use your own government-issued photo ID.
- Open an experience that supports Voice Chat. Voice controls will not necessarily appear in every Roblox game.
- Connect to voice. Select the headphone icon or open the experience’s settings and turn on Voice Chat. On PlayStation, Roblox directs users to the in-experience settings rather than the headphone-icon route.
- Manage your microphone. Use the microphone control to mute or unmute yourself. Open the experience settings to disconnect.
A headset with a microphone is optional, not an eligibility requirement. It may help if the device you are using does not have a suitable microphone. Roblox documents supported devices and controls in its Voice FAQ.

Who can a 13-year-old talk to?
Roblox groups communication by age. For voice with trusted friends, users aged 13–17 can communicate with trusted friends in the same age group, according to Roblox’s age-check guidance. A parent may also restrict communication through parental controls. Fix common Voice Chat problems
The Voice Chat option is missing
- Confirm the account has completed an age check.
- Try an experience that supports Voice Chat.
- Check Roblox’s Voice FAQ for regional and platform availability.
- If a parent manages the account, ask whether communication features have been restricted.
The age check did not work
Facial Age Estimation may fail to estimate age, and Roblox says some regions require parental approval for estimation. ID verification is limited to users aged 13 or older and requires the account holder’s own government-issued photo ID. Phone verification is the only completed check
Phone verification does not currently grant Voice Chat access. Complete one of the age-check methods Roblox identifies for Voice Chat instead.
The controls differ by device
Roblox lists desktop, mobile, VR, PlayStation, and Xbox among supported platforms, but available controls vary. On PlayStation, use the experience’s settings to connect. Check the Voice FAQ for current platform details.

Use voice controls and report concerns
While connected, a user can mute their own microphone, mute another user, disconnect, and block or report someone. Roblox says its Terms of Use and Community Standards apply to Voice Chat. If a conversation feels uncomfortable, leave or disconnect, use the report or block controls as appropriate, and do not share personal information.
