In the original Five Nights at Freddy’s, Camera 6 shows the Kitchen—but not as a picture. The player hears audio instead. That behavior is clear in the game; the sources available here do not establish why the developers chose it, so explanations about sabotage, ghosts, or a technical fault remain speculation.
What Camera 6 shows
Camera 6 is the Kitchen camera. Its monitor feed is audio-only rather than a visible image. A 2015 Steam Community guide describes it as: “Camera 6, the Kitchen, shows garble with -Camera Disabled- Audio Only.” That is a community-authored gameplay description, not an official statement from creator Scott Cawthon.
A 2023 fan-made French reprogramming document likewise describes the Kitchen camera as damaged and directs players to listen for clues about who is there. It reflects the same mechanic, but it is fan documentation rather than confirmation of the game’s canon or the creator’s intent.
Why is the feed audio-only?
The reason is not confirmed by the sources available here. The observable fact is that the game gives players sound instead of a Kitchen image; that does not, by itself, establish an in-universe explanation or a developer’s design rationale.

A 2024 article about Camera 6 offers several possible causes, including deliberate suspense, technical trouble, management concealment, sabotage, and paranormal interference. It does not attribute those explanations to a developer or cite primary evidence, and the possibilities conflict with one another. They should therefore be treated as speculation, not a solved mystery.
What players can conclude
- Established gameplay detail: Camera 6 is the Kitchen feed, and it is audio-only.
- Not established: Whether the camera is disabled for a particular story reason, or why the game presents it this way.
- Fan theories: Claims that the Purple Guy, a spirit, or an in-story technical failure caused the missing image are not confirmed by the cited material.
No official developer explanation is established by the sources cited here. Without one, the most accurate answer is that Camera 6 is designed to give the player Kitchen audio without a visible feed, while the reason behind that choice remains unverified.
