RPCS3’s “Playable” label means a PS3 game can be completed with playable performance and without game-breaking glitches. It is not a promise of perfect, console-identical results on every PC. Because the project’s compatibility list changes frequently, check the exact game and title ID—and its linked notes—before deciding whether it will work for you.
What “Playable” means on RPCS3
The official RPCS3 Compatibility List describes tested games and applications. Its “Playable” category means a game can be completed with playable performance and no game-breaking glitches. The label does not define a universal frame rate, promise flawless image or audio output, or guarantee the same experience across computers.

Compatibility is best understood through three questions: can the game be completed, is performance usable, and are glitches severe enough to interfere with play? A title marked Playable meets the project’s stated completion standard, but individual results still depend on the game, its version, and the PC running it.
How to read the other compatibility labels
The labels distinguish different failure points and limitations; they do not all mean simply “does not work.” RPCS3 defines them as follows:

- Ingame: The game cannot be finished, has serious glitches, or runs with insufficient performance.
- Intro: The game displays an image but does not progress beyond menus.
- Loadable: The game shows a black screen with a frame rate in the emulator window title.
- Nothing: The game does not initialize properly, fails to load, or crashes the emulator.
These categories describe the reported compatibility state, not a guarantee about what will happen on every configuration. The list is updated frequently, so treat a status as a point-in-time guide rather than a permanent property of the game.
How to check whether your specific PS3 game is playable
- Search the compatibility list for the exact title. Start with the game’s full name, then compare the listed entry with your copy.
- Match the title ID and region. A game can have multiple PS3 IDs for regional or other releases. Do not assume that a status for one entry automatically applies to every edition.
- Open the linked title information. The compatibility list connects entries to title wiki pages and forum threads, where more specific notes may be available.
- Check the status close to when you plan to play. RPCS3 says its list changes frequently; an older status may no longer reflect the current build or reported results.
- Compare your PC with current official setup guidance. A Playable label is not a hardware guarantee. Consult RPCS3’s current setup documentation before buying or changing components.
Why a library-wide percentage can mislead
A search snapshot of the RPCS3 list displayed 69.85% as the Playable share, but that figure was not accompanied by a reliable current date and denominator, and the list changes frequently. It should not be presented as RPCS3’s current library-wide success rate. For an individual player, the exact title entry and its current notes are more useful than an undated percentage.

Examples and practical setup considerations
Valkyria Chronicles
The compatibility-list snapshot showed Valkyria Chronicles as Playable, with multiple PS3 IDs, and displayed a last-updated date of 2025-02-14. That is a dated example, not a fresh verification. Check the current entry and match the ID for your region before relying on the status. If you are looking for a physical copy, verify the edition, region, condition, and current listing details; RPCS3 does not provide or distribute the game.
Hardware and controllers
The project’s FAQ describes RPCS3 as an open-source PS3 emulator. Its guidance lists an x64 CPU and an OpenGL 4.3-capable graphics card as minimum requirements, recommends modern Vulkan-compatible graphics, and warns that requirements may change during development. Because this is mutable project guidance, use the current official setup documentation rather than treating those baseline points as a buying specification.

Controller support is configurable: the RPCS3 controller configuration wiki describes support for up to seven concurrent controllers, including mixed controller types. It also warns that many DualShock 3 controllers sold online are counterfeit; some may lack motion controls or pressure-sensitive buttons, or fail with the relevant drivers. Check current device support and the specific controller’s authenticity and features before purchasing.
