UNO does not have one critic score. Each digital release has its own review page, and a number attached to one edition says nothing reliable about another. As of 8 October 2026, the Metacritic figures for this title are 81 for the Xbox 360 version (24 critic reviews), 71 for the 2016 edition on PlayStation 4, and 69 for the 2016 edition on Nintendo Switch (seven critic reviews). Read each figure as a snapshot of that one release, on that platform, at the time its reviews were published.
Which UNO the scores refer to
The name covers several products. The physical card game is made by Mattel, and digital versions have appeared on different consoles and in different years. Critic reviews attach to one specific release, so identify the release before comparing anything.
- Physical card game: Mattel’s official instruction sheet confirms the tabletop product and its rules (Mattel’s official UNO instruction sheet). Critic reviews do not cover it.
- Xbox 360 digital version: Metacritic’s UNO Xbox 360 critic reviews page shows the 81 Metascore.
- UNO (2016) digital edition: Metacritic lists this edition separately by platform. The PlayStation 4 figure and the Nintendo Switch figure below come from different platform views of the UNO (2016) critic reviews page.
- Other UNO listings: GameSpot’s UNO reviews archive lists several UNO reviews across editions, so confirm the year and platform of any review you quote.
Scores edition by edition
| Edition and platform | Metascore | Critic reviews counted | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| UNO, Xbox 360 | 81 | 24 | Metacritic, UNO Xbox 360 critic reviews |
| UNO (2016), PlayStation 4 | 71 | Not stated | Metacritic, UNO (2016) critic reviews |
| UNO (2016), Nintendo Switch | 69 | 7 | Metacritic, UNO (2016) Nintendo Switch critic reviews |
Xbox 360 edition: 81 from 24 critics
The Xbox 360 page is the highest score of the three and the one with the largest review count. Its excerpts, reproduced on Metacritic, describe the game as accessible and praise how well it carries the familiar card game into a digital form. These are paraphrased observations from the page, not attributed quotes from named critics, so check the original review before quoting any wording.
2016 edition on PlayStation 4: 71
Metacritic describes a 71 as mixed or average. The count of reviews behind this figure is not stated in the source used here, so do not compare its weight directly with the 24 reviews behind the Xbox 360 score.

- UNO card game provides classic play, where players match colors or numbers in a race to get rid of all their cards!
- Action Cards and Wild Cards add unexpected excitement and game-changing fun, like the Reverse Card that switches the direction of play!
- The deck includes 3 blank Wild Cards for house rules anyone can make up -- erase and create new rules each game!
- When down to one card, players don't want to forget to yell 'UNO!' Keep score and the first player or team to 500 wins!
- The color blind accessible deck has special graphic symbols on each card to help identify its color, allowing players with any form of color blindness to play!
2016 edition on Nintendo Switch: 69 from seven reviews
Seven reviews is a small sample, and one of the displayed reviews, from GamingTrend, reports empty lobbies as a drawback. The same review praises local play, house rules and themed decks. The lobby comment describes online play at the time of that review. It does not show whether lobbies are populated today.
Why the scores cannot be ranked against each other
A 12-point gap between the Xbox 360 page and the Switch page does not show that one version is better. The three figures come from different platforms, different review sets and different review counts, with reviews written at different times. Treat them as separate verdicts on separate releases. If you need a like-for-like comparison, use only pages for the same edition and platform with comparable review counts.
Rank #2
- UNO Show 'em No Mercy game adds 56 more cards, special rules and super-tough action cards for the most brutal edition of UNO ever!
- Tougher action cards, such as Skip Everyone, Wild Draw 6 and even Wild Draw 10 make game play merciless!
- The Stacking Rule lets players pass the penalty (Draw +2, +4, +6, +10) to the next player until whoever can't play has to take all the cards combined!
- Whenever a '7' or a '0' card is played, players must swap hands with another player!
- The Mercy Rule means that if any player gets 25+ cards in their hand, they are out of the game!
What the scores do not tell you about playing in 2026
Critic pages record what reviewers said when they reviewed a release. They do not establish current conditions. Before relying on any edition, check these points yourself:
- Availability: whether the edition you want is still listed on its platform’s store. The review pages do not establish this.
- Price: no current price was verified for any edition or for the physical deck.
- Online play: whether matchmaking and lobbies are active. The empty-lobby comment is a review-era observation and is not evidence of present-day player counts or server performance.
- Local play and house rules: reviewers praised these features in the Switch coverage, but confirm in the store listing or game settings that the version you buy still offers them.
How to check the live pages
- Open the Metacritic critic-review page for the exact edition you are considering, using the links above.
- For the Switch figures, use the platform view (
?platform=nintendo-switch) so you see only that platform’s reviews. - Note the review count beside the Metascore, and compare only pages with similar counts.
- Check the date of any review that mentions online features before treating its comments as current.
- Scroll GameSpot’s reviews list (GameSpot UNO review) to confirm which edition a given review covers.
If you want in-person play
The physical UNO card game is the natural alternative if you want in-person play. Mattel’s official instruction sheet sets out the rules for the tabletop game (Mattel’s UNO instruction sheet). Its availability and price were not verified for this article.
