Until Dawn reached PS5 and PC on October 4, 2024. Sony first announced the rebuilt edition in January 2024 for release in fall 2024 and confirmed the October date in August. Ballistic Moon rebuilt the 2015 PlayStation 4 horror game in Unreal Engine 5, keeping the original story while adding a third-person camera, reworked prologue sections, extra collectibles, and new accessibility settings.
Release date and platforms
- Release date: October 4, 2024, on PS5 and PC.
- Developer: Ballistic Moon, working with Sony.
- Engine: Unreal Engine 5, which the developer used to rebuild the game from the ground up rather than port it.
- PC account requirement: A PlayStation Network account is required to play the PC version, according to Sony’s launch post and the Steam product listing.
The January 2024 announcement was the first public look at the project. Neil McEwan, Creative Director at Ballistic Moon, described the work this way at the time: “Rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5, Until Dawn has seen enhancements across the board, all made with passion and care for the original from the team of horror lovers, film fanatics, and veteran game makers at Ballistic Moon; and it’s coming to PS5 and PC this year!” The phrase “this year” referred to 2024, and the game has since launched.

What changed in the rebuilt edition
Visuals, lighting and audio
The August 2024 launch material lists updated character models, environments, interactable props, visual effects, and animation, along with new lighting and rendering work. Audio was also upgraded. The original horror score was replaced with a new score by composer Mark Korven, as announced in January 2024.
Camera and movement
The remake adds a third-person camera. Sony’s August material describes the camera as combining fixed views with over-the-shoulder views, and the January announcement also mentioned contextual movement animation. Players who prefer the original framing can still use fixed-camera views.
