To meet the raccoon in Stardew Valley, repair the Giant Stump in Cindersap Forest with 100 Hardwood. The raccoon moves in the next day and begins making item requests. A new request becomes available every seven days; completing nine earns the Good Neighbors achievement and unlocks a special cutscene.
How to unlock the raccoon
- Wait for the strong-wind event that leaves a stump in Cindersap Forest.
- Interact with the stump to start the quest The Giant Stump.
- Provide 100 Hardwood to repair it. The raccoon moves in the following day.
The raccoon feature was introduced in version 1.6. The initial repair is a quest; later requests are interactions with the raccoon rather than a continuing chain of journaled quests. Stardew Valley Wiki: Raccoon
How the raccoon’s requests work
After moving in, the raccoon asks for items in exchange for rewards. A subsequent request becomes available seven days after the preceding request. The requests provide a staged side activity in Cindersap Forest: as you fulfill them, the raccoon’s wife and children join the family, and rewards continue beyond the main milestone.
Plan around the season
Requested items usually correspond to the current season and should be obtainable during that season. Requests generated during days 22–28 instead use items from the following season. For example, a request generated on Spring 24 can call for Summer items. If an item is not currently available, check whether the request was generated near the end of the season before deciding it is unobtainable.

Be ready to make some items
Some requests can call for artisan products rather than raw ingredients. Depending on the item, producing it may require equipment such as a Dehydrator, Fish Smoker, or Preserves Jar; these are examples, not equipment required for every request. Check the requested item’s recipe and production method before spending the seven-day interval gathering ingredients.
What nine requests unlock
Completing nine requests earns the Good Neighbors achievement. After that milestone, visit Cindersap Forest on a sunny day to see a special cutscene. The requests do not end there: you can continue fulfilling them for additional rewards.
