The Unwritten Realm update, Part 2 of The Storybook Vale, arrived in Disney Dreamlight Valley on July 9, 2025. Its new story content and Snippet gameplay were for owners of the Storybook Vale expansion pass. A separate set of bug fixes applied to the base game for all players. This guide covers that 2025 update as described in Gameloft’s official patch notes and a later hotfix. It does not describe the game as it stands today.
Who gets what
The update has two access paths, and they are easy to confuse. Story and gameplay additions require the expansion pass. The bug fixes and one shop item category do not.
| Change | Who receives it | Source and date |
|---|---|---|
| Return to the Vale, Maleficent and Aurora storyline, continuation of the Maleficent and Hades conflict | Storybook Vale expansion-pass owners | Gameloft patch notes, published July 7, 2025 |
| Royal Net, new evasive Snippets, Lorekeeper Tales | Storybook Vale expansion-pass owners | Gameloft patch notes, July 7, 2025 |
| Friendship quests that unlock items and outfits | Storybook Vale expansion-pass owners | Gameloft patch notes, July 7, 2025 |
| Aurora- and Maleficent-inspired premium shop bundles | All players | Gameloft patch notes, July 7, 2025 |
| Base-game bug fixes (listed below) | All players | Gameloft patch notes, July 7, 2025 |
| Filing cabinet visual fix in the Unwritten Realm | Not stated in the hotfix listing | Gameloft hotfix notes, July 29, 2025 |
The patch notes state the eligibility split in plain terms: the update arrives for expansion-pass owners, and the base-game fixes are for everyone. The notes also carry the line “This update will also include base game bug fixes for everyone!” It is an unattributed editorial sentence on the official patch-notes page, not a quote from a named person.

Part 2: story and gameplay additions
Story: Maleficent, Aurora and Hades
Part 2 returns players to the Vale to help Maleficent. Players encounter Aurora’s Dream Style, and the storyline continues the conflict between Maleficent and Hades. Friendship quests in this part unlock items and outfits, so completing them is the main route to the rewards tied to this chapter.
The Royal Net and new Snippets
The update introduced a catchable item category: evasive Snippets, collected with the Royal Net. Because the Snippets move, the net is the tool for gathering them rather than a simple pickup. The notes describe these as new to Part 2 and tied to the expansion pass.

Lorekeeper Tales
The new Lorekeeper Tales use collected Snippets to build story tapestries. This is the update’s main crafting-style system, and it depends on the Snippets above, so owners without the expansion content cannot use it.
All-player bug fixes
Gameloft’s notes list the following base-game fixes. They are recorded fixes in the patch, not a guarantee that every player’s individual issue was resolved.

The July 29 hotfix
A hotfix published July 29, 2025 added a fix for a visual issue with filing cabinets in the Unwritten Realm. It is not part of the July 9 list above, so do not treat it as one of the original patch fixes.
