As of October 8, 2026, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is the only first-person shooter in this roundup with a firm 2026 release date. Alien Deathstorm and Like or Die have been announced but carry no date in their official announcements, and Metro 2039 is scheduled for February 2027.
Firm 2026 date: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4
Call of Duty’s official site lists Modern Warfare 4 for release on Friday, October 23, 2026. It is the only shooter here with a day-level launch date, which makes it the anchor for any 2026 watch list.
Platforms and where to get the game
- PC: the official page lists PC through Battle.net, Steam, and Xbox on PC.
- Nintendo Switch 2: the official page says pre-orders are available at retail and through the Nintendo eShop. It does not address physical editions or retailer pricing, so confirm those on a live retailer listing before ordering.
- Campaign early access: an earlier entry on the official page confirms it begins October 16, 2026, ahead of the full launch.
What the developers say about DMZ
In a June 7, 2026 Xbox Wire interview, Studio Multiplayer Creative Director Joe Cecot and Lead Game Designer Jacky Reynolds discussed DMZ, which launches alongside Modern Warfare 4. Cecot described the mode this way: “We like to think of DMZ as an action extraction shooter.” He also explained how the team works: “We try and play every different extraction shooter that comes out, or even games that are slightly similar, just to see what’s clicking with players, what feels good, what doesn’t feel good.”
Xbox Wire’s coverage describes DMZ as an extraction-shooter experience that pairs structured missions with emergent play. That description is more useful than a generic “multiplayer” label if you are deciding whether the mode suits you.

Feature details and schedules change close to launch, so check the official Call of Duty site before you plan around them.
Announced, with no confirmed date

NC’s Gamescom announcement, dated August 25, 2026, says the team-based survival FPS was previously known as Project Bonfire. Xbox Wire’s gamescom coverage from July 28, 2026 calls Metro 2039 an upcoming FPS and places it in February 2027. Players explore, scavenge, and survive in the post-apocalyptic ruins of Moscow. Because its window falls outside 2026, it belongs on a list of games to watch for next year. That coverage does not state platforms.
