What BootstrapPackagedGame means—and what it does not
The process name by itself does not identify why VALORANT failed to open. Riot’s general launch guidance describes several possible PC-side causes, so the same visible symptom may need different troubleshooting depending on whether Riot Client opens, an error appears, or the process remains stuck. There is no established single fix for every occurrence of BootstrapPackagedGame.exe.
Before changing anything, note the exact error text or code, whether Riot Client opens, whether the process exits or stays in Task Manager, and whether the problem began after a game update, driver change, or new background application. These clues help match the issue to the right support instructions; they do not prove its cause.
Start with Riot’s official failed-launch guidance
Riot’s VALORANT launch-error article begins by directing players to disable DevOverrideEnable using Riot’s linked Windows Registry Editor instructions. Follow Riot’s exact procedure if you take this step. Do not improvise registry edits, change unrelated values, or delete registry keys based on a forum post.

Registry changes can affect Windows behavior. If you are unsure how to follow Riot’s instructions, stop and contact Riot Player Support rather than experimenting. After completing the official steps, try launching VALORANT again and record whether the behavior or error changed.
Choose the next step from the actual error or condition
Riot’s VALORANT support index lists separate guidance for different client, access, security, repair, and logging problems. Use the topic that matches what you observed instead of applying every troubleshooting method at once.

- Riot Client does not open or needs elevated access: consult Riot’s instructions for running the Riot Client as administrator.
- Your antivirus or security software may be involved: use Riot’s antivirus troubleshooting guidance. Do not create broad exclusions or disable protection without following the applicable official instructions.
- An access or file-permission error appears: look for Riot’s Windows file-access troubleshooting topic and follow its steps for that specific message.
- You suspect a conflicting background program: use Riot’s clean-boot guidance rather than guessing which services to disable.
- The client may have damaged or incomplete files: check Riot’s full-repair instructions for the Riot Client.
- You need to report the problem: Riot’s support index also links to the Riot Repair Tool instructions for gathering logs.
These are distinct routes, not a checklist that every player must run through. An error message or matching symptom is a better reason to choose one than the process name alone.
When driver troubleshooting is relevant
Riot lists driver issues among possible reasons a game may fail to launch, but that does not mean a driver update will fix every BootstrapPackagedGame.exe problem. If the failure coincides with a graphics or other driver change, or you are seeing a crash symptom that points to a driver, follow Riot’s driver and game-crash guidance. Avoid treating a routine update as a guaranteed remedy for this process label.

If VALORANT still will not open
- Write down the precise error text or code, what happens when you press Play, and whether
BootstrapPackagedGame.exedisappears or remains running. - Use Riot’s support index to find the relevant log-gathering instructions, including the Riot Repair Tool where appropriate.
- Contact Riot Player Support with the observed error and the logs. This gives support concrete information to investigate instead of relying on the process name alone.
Reinstalling the game, changing permissions, or adding security exceptions is not established as a universal solution for this symptom. Use those actions only if Riot’s guidance for your specific condition calls for them.
