Open Task Manager while the problem is happening: if Task Manager flickers along with the rest of the display, start with the display driver; if Task Manager stays steady, look for an incompatible app. This is a useful diagnostic split, not a definitive diagnosis.
1. Check whether the flicker affects Windows or only Valorant
- When the flickering occurs, press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager.
- Watch Task Manager and the rest of the screen. If Task Manager flickers too, a display-driver issue is more likely. If Task Manager remains stable while other content flickers, an incompatible app is more likely.
Microsoft describes display-driver and incompatible-app issues as common causes of screen flickering in Windows 11; this diagnostic applies to Windows generally and does not establish a Valorant-specific cause. See Microsoft’s Windows screen-flicker troubleshooting guide.
2. Follow the matching Windows troubleshooting path
If Task Manager flickers too
If the problem began after a Windows Update, Microsoft recommends rolling back the display driver. If it did not, try updating the display driver; uninstalling it and restarting the PC is another possible path, since Windows can then attempt to reinstall it. Choose the action that fits what changed on your PC rather than applying all of them at once.
If Task Manager stays stable
Look for an app that may be incompatible with Windows or the display driver. Update or uninstall the suspected app, then check whether the flicker stops. Change one thing at a time so you can identify what made a difference. Microsoft’s steps are in its screen-flicker guide.

3. If flicker is limited to Valorant, test display-sync settings
When the Windows desktop and other apps remain stable, check the game’s active display mode and relevant graphics-driver synchronization settings. Try one reversible change at a time, and restore it if it does not help. The appropriate options depend on your graphics card, monitor, driver, and display mode; the available evidence does not establish a setting that fixes flickering in every Valorant configuration.
On a compatible AMD FreeSync setup
AMD says FreeSync synchronizes a compatible display’s refresh with the game’s frame rate. If your FPS regularly exceeds the monitor’s refresh rate, AMD suggests testing V-Sync or a frame-rate cap. These checks apply to a compatible FreeSync configuration, not to every PC. See AMD’s FreeSync overview.

- QHD Resolution (2560 x 1440) has 1.7 times the pixel density of Full HD for incredibly detailed pinsharp images
- HDR10 provides brighter highlights and nuanced shadow for added depth - making every scene feel more vivid and realistic
- The 180Hz refresh rate minimizes lag for gameplay with ultra-smooth action. Plus, the 1ms response time helps capture your moves in real-time, allowing you to react fast for gaming precision
- AMD FreeSync reduces choppiness, screen lag and image tearing, ensuring that your fast-paced, complex in-game action is stable with minimal stutter
- Ergonomic stand allows for tilt, pivot and height adjustments to maximize gaming comfort
If AMD Enhanced Sync is enabled
Temporarily turn Enhanced Sync off and check whether the flicker changes. AMD warns that Enhanced Sync may cause flicker or other unwanted behavior in some multimedia playback situations. That warning makes an off test reasonable, but it does not prove Enhanced Sync is the cause of a Valorant-only problem. See AMD’s Enhanced Sync overview.
4. Rule out an external-monitor connection problem
- Confirm the monitor is powered on and connected securely.
- Reseat the cable at both ends.
- If available, test with a known-good compatible cable or another display.
These checks help isolate a physical connection or display issue; they are not a general fix for flickering that occurs only in Valorant. Replace a cable only if testing points to a cable fault. Microsoft lists connection and display checks in its blank-screen troubleshooting guidance.

- Smooth motion: 240Hz refresh rate and fast 0.5ms response time provide crisp visuals and fluid movement with less input lag.
- Seamless gaming: FreeSync Premium and HDMI VRR eliminate tearing for smooth, responsive PC and console gameplay.
- Fast IPS: Faster 0.5ms response with excellent color accuracy across wide IPS viewing angles.
- Rich color: 99% sRGB color coverage delivers vivid, detailed imagery with strong accuracy.
- Eye comfort: TÜV Rheinland 3‑star certified display lowers blue light while preserving color quality.
5. Use the timing and setup to narrow the next check
- Flicker began after a Windows Update: consider the display-driver rollback path.
- Task Manager stays stable: investigate incompatible apps before changing driver settings.
- Only Valorant flickers: test relevant display mode and sync options individually.
- External monitor flickers beyond the game: check the connection and isolate the cable or display.
AMD has published historical release notes describing brightness flicker in some games with FreeSync enabled in borderless fullscreen for a specific older software release. That release-specific note does not establish a current Valorant issue or show that borderless fullscreen is the cause on today’s systems. See AMD’s 21.2.2 VRT Beta release notes.
