Valve’s current product page calls it “a PC” running SteamOS on a Snapdragon 8 Series processor and describes streaming from a PC. The console speculation comes from a trademark application that lists video game consoles and controllers as goods; that legal wording does not establish the device’s final form factor.
What is Valve’s Steam Frame?
Valve describes Steam Frame as VR hardware built around a PC: its product page says, “Steam Frame is a PC, and runs SteamOS powered by a Snapdragon® 8 Series Processor.” The same page describes wireless connectivity and streaming from a PC. That makes “PC-based VR headset” the clearest description supported by Valve’s current product information.
The description does not, by itself, settle every detail of how the device works or what it can run. The available product-page information establishes its PC and SteamOS identity and points to PC streaming, but it should not be stretched into unconfirmed claims about performance, supported content, price, or availability. Why does the Steam Frame trademark mention consoles?
Valve filed U.S. trademark application serial 99370861 for the standard-character mark STEAM FRAME on September 2, 2025. Its goods description includes “Computer game consoles for recreational game playing; video game consoles; video game accessories, namely, controllers for video games.” That wording explains why the filing prompted console speculation, but a trademark application describes goods claimed for the mark; it does not prove the design or category of a finished product. A separate Valve application, serial 99370857, describes computer hardware, networking hardware, peripherals, and hardware or software for reproducing, processing, and streaming audio, video, data, text, and multimedia. What does the Notice of Allowance mean?
The reproduced U.S. Notice of Allowance for serial 99370861 is dated January 27, 2026. It gave Valve six months to submit a Statement of Use or request an extension. A Notice of Allowance is a step in trademark prosecution, not a registration certificate; registration can issue only after the legal requirements for a Statement of Use are met. The available record does not establish later U.S. prosecution events, so it does not support a claim that the mark is now registered. A separate entry in Hong Kong’s October 17, 2025 intellectual-property journal names Valve and lists consoles and controllers in Class 28. Based on Valve’s current product description, it is a PC-based VR device. “Console” appears in the trademark’s goods wording, but that wording is not stronger evidence of the actual device category than Valve’s own description of the product as a PC running SteamOS. The most accurate short answer is: PC-based VR headset, with console language in the trademark filing.

That distinction is useful when reading future announcements: trademark records show how a company has sought to protect a name across specified goods, while product descriptions explain what the company says it is making. Neither the filing nor the current description verifies price, stock, shipping, or a purchase listing.
