Deadlock Hits a Record 236,730 Concurrent Players

SteamDB recorded Deadlock’s all-time concurrent-player peak at 236,730 on October 6, 2026, after the City Never Sleeps update. The timing suggests an association, not proof of cause.

Valve’s Deadlock reached a Steam-recorded peak of 236,730 concurrent players on October 6, 2026, according to SteamDB. The record came after the game’s City Never Sleeps update, but the timing alone does not show that the update caused the surge.

Deadlock’s record peak—and the later count

SteamDB’s game-specific tracker recorded an all-time peak of 236,730 concurrent players on October 6, 2026. Concurrent players are people in the game at the same time; this is not a count of everyone who owns or has played Deadlock. SteamDB’s Deadlock chart is a third-party tracker and says it is not affiliated with Valve or Steam.

In its October 8 page snapshot, SteamDB showed 139,179 players in game and a 24-hour peak of 160,798. Those are later, time-sensitive readings, not alternatives to the October 6 all-time record. Live counts and rolling peaks change as players enter and leave.

Measure Reading What it means

How the spike relates to City Never Sleeps

The record came in the period after Valve’s City Never Sleeps update. GamesRadar+ reported that Deadlock surpassed 228,000 concurrent players following the update, and described six new characters, map changes and other additions. That rounded milestone provides contemporaneous context for the later SteamDB record, but it does not establish how much the update contributed to the peak.

The available accounts do not isolate the update from other possible reasons people returned or joined. No source cited here gives an official explanation for the surge or a measured causal breakdown. It is accurate to say the spike followed or coincided with the update period—not that the update alone produced it.

What Valve said about the game’s development

Deadlock was still described as an early-development, invite-only game in contemporaneous reporting, rather than a finished public release. SteamDB listed its release date as “To be announced” in the cited snapshot; access and release status can change.

PC Gamer quoted Valve’s development update as saying the team still had substantial core-game work to do before moving into more polish. Valve also described the project as a multiplayer game that benefits from being in players’ hands early so their feedback can help shape what is fun. The account discussed progression, customization, item changes and alternative modes as work in progress or speculative—not confirmed release commitments.

Why Steam’s overall statistics page is a different measure

Steam’s official statistics page is a platform-wide snapshot, not a Deadlock history chart. On October 8, 2026, it showed 33,621,369 concurrent Steam users and a 48-hour peak of 39,075,196, alongside a ranked list of games that did not display Deadlock. That omission does not contradict SteamDB’s game-specific all-time record: the pages track different scopes and present different views.
