The listed reviews span August 2019 to September 2020. The score therefore reflects a small set of contemporary reviews of the Xbox One release, rather than critics’ assessment of every version or the game as it plays today.
What did critics like about Vigor?
Changing encounters and a sense of adventure
Daily Star’s review, dated September 9, 2019, highlights the appeal of encounters feeling different from one session to the next. Metacritic reproduces its description: “An exciting game to play which feels like a whole new adventure each time you play.” That captures the strongest positive thread in the excerpts: the prospect of a tense, unpredictable run rather than a fixed sequence of events.

Resource gathering and progression
In its September 6, 2019 review, 4P.de describes collecting resources as potentially motivating and tense, even while criticizing the shooter’s flaws and a pay-to-win option. The game is presented on its official site as a free-to-play shoot ’n’ loot game. A secondary game catalog, Whatoplay, describes the setting as post-war Norway and says players gather resources and build a shelter. Together, those descriptions help explain why looting and progression could appeal to some reviewers: each outing has a purpose beyond winning a firefight.
What concerns appeared in the reviews?
Combat feel and mechanics
GamingTrend’s September 9, 2020 excerpt criticizes clunky mechanics and the gunplay. These are that outlet’s judgments about its reviewed version, but they point to a key dividing line in the reception: a high-stakes loot loop may create tension, yet it depends on combat and controls feeling satisfying.

Monetization and waiting
Reviewers also raised concerns about monetization. 4P.de criticized a pay-to-win option, while Everyeye.it’s December 29, 2019 excerpt objected to weapon-crafting waits and microtransactions. These are dated critic opinions, not confirmation of how monetization or crafting works in the current build.
Solo play
GamingTrend also criticized the lack of a satisfying single-player fallback. That matters if you are deciding whether the game suits you alone: the cited review does not present solo play as a reliable alternative to the game’s encounter-based structure.

How relevant are the reviews now?
The Metacritic reviews date from 2019–2020, so they are useful for understanding the game’s early critical reception, but they do not establish its present-day quality. They also cover the Xbox One page specifically; they should not be treated as a score for other platforms.
For a current decision, check the live storefront for your platform to confirm that Vigor is available and to see the version currently offered. A secondary listing reports that the Nintendo Switch version was delisted from the eShop, but storefront availability can change; that report alone is not enough to establish what a player can download now. The old critic score cannot answer current availability or reflect later gameplay changes.

How to read the mixed reception
The reviews point to a trade-off rather than a simple consensus. The resource loop and unpredictability could make each outing feel worthwhile, while concerns about combat, balance, monetization, and solo options could undermine that appeal. If those latter issues are decisive for you, the 61 score is a reason to read the individual reviews and check current platform information—not a substitute for either.
