Did MultiVersus Tease Mortal Kombat’s Scorpion? What the 2024 Rumor Actually Showed

Scorpion was never confirmed for MultiVersus. The rumor came from an artist’s concept and a community manager’s emoji; the game later ended online service with Season 5.

No: Scorpion was never confirmed for MultiVersus. The July 4, 2024 story behind the “tease” was an artist’s concept image of the Mortal Kombat fighter and a side-eye emoji from a person identified as MultiVersus community manager AJAX—not a roster announcement. The present-day context matters, too: MultiVersus ended with Season 5, and its online service and downloads shut down in May 2025.

What sparked the Scorpion rumor?

Tech Times reported on July 4, 2024 that an artist had shared a rendered concept of Scorpion in MultiVersus. AJAX, identified in the report as a MultiVersus community manager, replied with a side-eye emoji. The report itself noted that the artist’s post did not say Scorpion was coming and concluded that his inclusion was unconfirmed. Read the July 4, 2024 report at Tech Times.

That is the full basis for calling it a tease: an unofficial concept and an ambiguous reaction. Neither establishes that WB Games planned, approved, or announced Scorpion as a playable fighter.

Did Scorpion join the MultiVersus roster?

No confirmed Scorpion addition followed from that exchange. The report did not provide an official roster announcement, release date, gameplay footage, or confirmation from WB Games that the character was in development. The emoji could invite speculation, but it is not evidence of a planned release.

What happened to MultiVersus after the rumor?

WB Games designated Season 5 as the game’s final season and content update. The official MultiVersus Season 5 FAQ says: “Season 5 will serve as the final season and content update for MultiVersus.” Season 5 ran from February 4 through May 30, 2025; the FAQ gives the shutdown time as 9 a.m. PDT on May 30.

  • January 31, 2025: Real-money transactions for MultiVersus ceased.
  • February 4, 2025: Season 5 began. Its final content update included Aquaman, Lola Bunny, a 70-tier Battle Pass, events, and challenges.
  • May 30, 2025, 9 a.m. PDT: Online play ended, and the game became unavailable for download through PlayStation Network, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store.

Can you still play MultiVersus offline?

Players who installed the latest version and logged in during Season 5 before the May 30, 2025 deadline can access offline local play and The Lab. Local play supports solo matches against AI or matches with up to three players. The FAQ describes offline availability as lasting “for the foreseeable future,” rather than promising permanent access.

The setup had to be completed before the deadline. The FAQ also says players need to set up each platform separately to retain access on multiple platforms. Players who did not install the game and log in in time cannot use the shutdown as a new way to download it.

Where can you play Scorpion instead?

Scorpion is a Mortal Kombat character, not a confirmed MultiVersus fighter. Warner Bros. Games announced Mortal Kombat 1: Definitive Edition for Nintendo Switch on May 14, 2025 and said the edition includes Scorpion skins. The publisher described it as available digitally; that announcement does not establish current retailer listings or physical-cartridge availability. It is a separate game and does not restore access to MultiVersus. See Warner Bros. Games’ edition announcement.

In the same announcement, Warner Bros. Games said the Mortal Kombat videogame franchise had sold more than 100 million units worldwide. That is a franchise-wide figure, not a sales figure for Mortal Kombat 1 or its Definitive Edition.
