WWE 2K25 has more than 300 playable characters across current WWE Superstars, Legends and Hall of Famers, and its roster expanded through post-launch DLC. But official game materials do not identify which performers count as “recently released” or connect WWE departure dates to character availability. That means the broad claim in the original headline cannot be verified for specific wrestlers without checking each person’s status and the date their character became playable.
Does WWE 2K25 have released wrestlers?
Yes, WWE 2K25 includes many performers who are no longer active WWE Superstars, particularly through its Legends and Hall of Famers roster and post-launch character packs. However, “released” can mean different things: a performer may be a Legend, may have left WWE years ago, or may have departed more recently. The official roster and DLC announcements do not label named characters as recently released from WWE.

2K’s January 28, 2025 announcement described the game as having more than 300 playable characters. Its examples include John Cena, Rhea Ripley, The Rock, CM Punk, Jade Cargill, Trish Stratus, Cody Rhodes, Liv Morgan, Rey Mysterio, Bret Hart, Jacob Fatu, Rob Van Dam, Lita, LA Knight, Chyna, Batista, Nia Jax and Becky Lynch. The announcement grouped the roster as current Superstars, Legends and Hall of Famers; it did not establish that any listed performer had recently been released. 2K’s roster announcement is the source for the overall count and examples.
Which released WWE superstars are in WWE 2K25?
The official DLC announcements name several wrestlers who joined the series through post-launch packs. They establish pack inclusion, not the date of any WWE departure. For that reason, the table identifies what the game sources confirm without describing the performers as recently released.

Pack rosters and access details come from 2K’s DLC roadmap and the linked individual pack announcements. These sources do not provide WWE departure dates for the named performers, so a claim that a particular wrestler was “recently released” needs separate, dated confirmation.
How to tell whether a character is in the base game or DLC
Do not assume that every character appears in every version of WWE 2K25. The game’s roster includes base-game characters, while DLC packs and edition bundles add other content. The official launch announcement listed Standard, Deadman and Bloodline editions for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC via Steam. Standard Edition launched March 14, 2025; the premium editions launched March 7, 2025. 2K said the five post-launch character packs could be bought separately or accessed through the Season Pass. Deadman and Bloodline editions included pass content, while some pack announcements also identify Ringside Pass access. The WWE 2K support FAQ says the Season Pass includes all five character packs and SuperCharger, which unlocks base-game WWE Legends and throwback arenas. That does not mean every edition includes the Season Pass or that every platform receives identical content.
- Base game: Check the edition listing and the in-game roster; the existence of a character in WWE 2K25 does not by itself mean they are included with every purchase.
- Edition or preorder bonus: Confirm the exact edition and platform listing. Bonus content varies by offer and is not equivalent to the base roster.
- Standalone DLC: A character pack may be purchased separately, subject to the platform store’s current listing.
- Pass access: The Season Pass covers five post-launch character packs; the FAQ also says it includes SuperCharger. Pack and pass inclusions should be checked against the edition and platform being used.
Platform and date checks matter
WWE 2K25 content can differ by platform and generation. The official support FAQ says DLC does not carry over between PlayStation generations. It also says The Island is available on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S; 2K’s June 25, 2025 Attitude Era announcement described the Hall of Legends expansion for The Island, featuring Goldberg and Nikki Bella, as available only on Nintendo Switch 2, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S at that time. Verify the current store listing and official support information before relying on older platform details.

For any individual performer, a defensible “recently released” claim requires two dated facts: a reliable record of when that person left WWE and an official listing showing when their playable character became available. It also requires identifying whether they were in the base game, an edition bonus or a later DLC pack. The official WWE 2K25 sources cited here confirm character and pack availability, but do not provide that departure-date comparison.
